By the time that Monday morning rolled around, Bette
realized that she was in trouble. She had been unable to get Tina Kennard out
of her mind and what frightened her a little was that she had realized that
Tina was firmly ensconced in her heart. Having admitted that to herself
somewhere in between the time she left Tina and this morning, she knew what she
needed to doshe wanted to make sure that if Tina ever felt the need to run
again that it would be straight into her arms.
Bette: (making her way to her assistant’s desk) “JonathanI need you to get
these items together and have them delivered to Tina Kennard over at
Alphaville”
[A knock on Tina’s office door]
Tina: “Come in.”
Cindy: “There’s a delivery for you, Tina” (She is carrying in a large white
bag and sets it down on Tina’s desk)
Tina: “Thanks, Cindy” (Tina stands up to examine what is in the bag, as Cindy
exits)
Tina opens the bag to find a container of one of Sutterfield’s lunch special
sandwiches, a pink rose and an envelope. Immediately, Tina feels her cheeks
begin to flush and she holds the pink rose in her hand, laughing softly. Her
heart is beating so quickly; she places her hand on her chest, as if to slow
its pace. The envelope reads “Tina” in perfect penmanship. Tina opens it and pulls
out the stationery. As she reads the note, Tina is now unable to control her
rapid breathing and heartbeatand an incredibly huge smile has formed on her
face.
Dearest Tina,
Only one day has passed since I saw your smiling face and felt the touch of
your lips upon mine but it seems like forever. My mind keeps wandering back to
you and I can’t seem to stop thinking of our moments together. I find myself
wishing I were with you, but alas I am here and you are there – doing what we
must do. So please accept and enjoy my gift and know that I will be thinking of
you.
Oh and in regards to your giftsomeone special introduced me to these delicious
sandwiches over the weekendso I thought I’d be sure to share with you. I have
not tried this particular lunch special yetbut I want you to know that if
you’d ever like to assist again in broadening my palette’s horizons, I would
jump for joy at the chance to share a meal with you.
