The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 7

“Oh my God! I broke you,” Tina exclaimed, her eyes bouncing between the twinkling brown orbs, the crutches, and the white bandaged ankle.

    Bette shrugged. “These things happen.”

Tina placed her purse on the table and went over to Bette. “I’m so sorry.”

The brunette began to chuckle, and she shook her head. Her long straightened dark hair fell in waves of curls and moved as she moved. Bette pulled her leg from the chair and stood up. At her full height and in her Toms, she matched Tina’s eye line.

“What are you doing?” asked Tina. “Should I grab your crutches?”

“No, T. I was just messing around. My ankle is fine. It doesn’t even hurt anymore.”

Bette’s sweet smile was infectious and the tension in Tina’s shoulders relaxed. “Are you kidding me?”

The brunette laughed softly. “I am totally kidding you. I couldn’t sleep last night, so I found these crutches and some ace bandages at a drug store. Can I have a hug?”

Tina was smiling, though she rolled her eyes. She met her new friend in a warm embrace that lasted longer than any first hug she’d ever given anyone. When the separated, Bette’s smile was gone, and her eyes were glassy. “You smell the same,” she whispered. She’d said it so softly Tina had barely heard her.

They took seats across from each other at the table and Bette unwrapped her ankle.

“How do you remember my smell? How do I know you, Bette?” asked Tina.

Bette cleared her throat and looked away. “Thank you for coming, Tina. I wasn’t sure you really would.”

Tina eyed her curiously. “I wanted to be here. You said you wanted to see me. I needed to see you.”

The dark curls nodded, and Bette looked down at the table. “This place is a staple for me and my friends. We eat here quite a bit. I hate to cook and it’s just me at home. So sometimes I eat like 3 meals a day from The Planet.”

“Bette,” said Tina. “Can you look at me?”

Tina shuddered when she saw the water standing in the dark brown pools. Bette’s cheeks were flushed, and she chewed nervously on her lower lip. “Do I make you nervous?” Tina asked.

    1. Thank you for the new update!

I think maybe Bette i little too persistent with Tina now. I understand why she’s behaving like this, but still. But good thing that it not scared Tina away.

    2. Bette is using too much of her knowledge of the previous Tina in this initial “date”.. It puts Bette in a position of having to explain the impossible. There is already enough magnetism between the two of them without pulling the pre ordering of water, coffee and breakfast could have caused problems. Bette has already demonstrated that she knew her name. With any thought process at all, Tina will be frightened out of remaining in this meeting without a full explanation. And a lucky guess will not be satisfactory for the intelligent Tina. For most people, someone even if you were really interested in them would be freaked out if someone you just met did this to them. The other thing is that most people would find it presumptuous for someone to order for them thus denying them their choice in a meal even if it is exactly what they would have ordered for themselves.. It is only after permission is given that ordering for someone else is considered good manners. Of course Bette is excited about seeing Tina and wants to impress her, however, this was a very immature move.

I am pleasantly surprised that Tina is being so aggressive with Bette. I can see that Tina is drawn to Bette, but her actions in showing this is really surprising. She is not so subtle placing her hand in Bette’s lap indicating that she is ready for intimacy, yet she wonders if Bette is just trying to get her to her home to sleep with her? The dichotomy of Tina’s responses are interesting.

I think that the disclosures by Bette were done very well. I think that Tina not disclosing Henry is a big mistake. Obviously, she is living with Henry or married to him and did not take his name? But unlike Bette, Tina is not in the process of getting a divorce? It is obvious that Tina and Henry are not getting along very well and their relationship is one of convenience But this is not going to sit well with Bette if she withholds this information for long.

It is also obvious that Tina is still having problems identifying as a lesbian. She is attracted to Shane and ready to pounce on Bette and seems to have had some relationships with other women. Maybe this is what has caused the riff between her and her mother? And maybe dear ole Dad just doesn’t known. Meanwhile, she is playing straight in her public life. No wonder her private life has not been very satisfactory. If Tina and Bette are to find happiness in this story, Tina will have to be happy and ready to live her life authentically as to who she is publicly and privately.

I really like this story….its full of surprises and twist and turns which I do not expect. Keep it writing.. Love it.

      • I totally agree. Tina had the perfect chance to get everything out in the open with Bette. She chickened out and that’s no way to start out getting to know someone. What I really think hits home is that in life, we are who we are based on the sum of our experiences. And in this case, both Bette & Tina have become different people because of the rift in space and time. They didn’t have the experience of growing together. Let’s see if they are able to help each other with the growth that each woman desperately needs.

    3. Thanks for posting! I’m so happy that Bette gets a chance to talk to Tina early on in your story. Now I’m curious to read more about Tina’s life.

      Looking forward to more.

    4. Very nice chapter..glad Tina wasn’t scared away and is giving as much as Bette’s giving. Not sure way she would hold back Henry Bette’s spilling her guts as much as possible. Feels as though Tina also is living an alternate life. Not wanting to scare her away. Anyways thank you

    5. I discovered your story not long ago and it’s fantastic ! I’m glad you decided to continue it.

Tina will certainly be frightened if Bette tells her the thruth because I know I would certainly run for the hills.

      Please post soon !

    6. I was in love whit this story but it’s kinda weird Tina’s behavior after meeting Bette, I mean, obviously I want them back together but its was so so fast and kinda desperated by them both,I was expected a little more drama or at least that Tina didn’t get involved that way (in just 1 day).. as I said I love your story, I love Dana’s showing up and everything I’ll keep reading and trusting in your creativity. Xoxo

    7. I see marriage as a sacred (special) trust that at the very least, BOTH participants KNOW they’re they in!!

Bette was honest about being married, though it was soon to be dissolved. Tina is flat out deceiving Bette by not revealing that she is married. How’s that gonna help in the “trust” department which she (Tina) seems to value so much????
