The Starting Line: Chapter 17
My new job was a lot better than the first one. I liked working at Tonic, but kind of got sick of the same rich ladies who all came in looking for the same shoulder length bobs and subtle highlights. Sandra and the others at The Edge were also a more lively bunch to work with. And the clientele were up for more daring looks. I was still basically a glorified shampoo girl, but Sandra assured me that I would actually start having my own chair very soon. Everything healed up fine after a bit, and soon I was back at full speed ahead. I was enjoying my nightly conquests, got along well with my roommates, and had finally started to really relax with my friends. Alice, Dana, and I were still having our daily afternoon coffee sessions, and Al and I really had a good understanding of each other’s cynical comments, making the on-going banter fun between us.
“What about her? Have you done her yet?”
I sipped my coffee. “Sure, why not?”
Al slapped my arm, “You didn’t even look!”
“Does it matter if I look? Like I’m going to tell you anything anyways…”
Dana laughed, “She’s right Al, you’ve been hounding her for a year now and never get an actual answer or detail out of her.”
Alice huffed, “Geez Dane, I’m wearing her down! I will get something out of this one! I mean, if what I’ve heard said about her is true, then she is a wealth of knowledge that should be shared with her friends!”
I leaned over and smirked at her, “Al, you couldn’t handle what I know.”
She leaned into my face and smirked back, “Oh yeah, what do you know that I don’t?”
I cocked an eyebrow at her, “More than you know… like I know you’re totally oblivious to the girl over at the counter checking you out for the last five minutes.”
Alice whipped her head to see if I was telling the truth. “Where?” She made eye contact with a brunette… the same brunette that had been “waiting” for her coffee for the last five minutes.
