The Telling
"Tee," I began, "this doesn’t mean – "
"Bette," she spun around, holding up her hand and silencing me again, just like she had done what seemed like hours ago. "I can’t do this. I told you that."
"Do what?"
"This!" Her hand swept around the bedroom before coming to point at me in an accusatory manner. "This doesn’t change anything, you know," she pushed at her tousled hair and attempted to smooth out the wrinkles in her skirt, failing miserably. Giving the garment a look of distaste, as though the skirt was to blame for what had just happened, she folded her arms across her chest and let out a short sigh. I knew she wanted to cry, just as I knew she wouldn’t allow herself to in front of me. Swallowing hard, I almost held my breath as she picked at a loose thread on her tank top and finally looked at me, her eyes luminous with sorrow.
"I’m sorry." Her voice was little more than a whisper as she looked at me, her face contorting around the confusion of how she must be feeling right now. "I’m sorry Bette, but this can’t happen again. It’s too…" she twirled her hand around in the air, searching for the right word.
"Painful," I said dully.
She nodded. "Yeah," she agreed wistfully, looking away from what must have been the naked and exposed emotion on my face. A hundred things sprang to my lips, things I could say to stop the inevitable, things I could say to prevent her from leaving me again, but my mouth refused to express them. Instead, I wiped at the drying tears on my cheek and gazed down at the rumpled bedspread, knowing that this time, perhaps, was really the last.
"I have to go," she said suddenly, sniffing and rubbing at her eyes again. "I have to…uh…I have to go."
I still didn’t say anything. How could I? The determination I’d seen on her face when she’d first spoken to me this morning was back, building up the walls between us brick by blasted brick. She was the weakness in me; the Achilles heel that throbbed and ached with every fresh wound losing her inflicted.
Casting a pensive glance around the room, she finally gestured towards the bundle of clothes still on the bed, bearing the creases and warmth of our lovemaking. I noticed how her hands were trembling and I tried not to look at her for fear that I would dissemble completely.
"I’ll come back some other time," she said quietly, firmly. "To get the rest of my things, I mean."
I nodded dumbly, some part of me wanting to cover up my nakedness in the light of her judgmental gaze, shame creeping into my senses like a winter fog. To know that what happened between us was some kind of aberration cut me more deeply than if it had never happened at all. A mistake. My perfect mistake in loving her more every day and knowing that I had destroyed it so easily. It was only then that I realized how fragile we both were, how our combined strength was disseminated and torn apart by our separation. And how I, ultimately, was the creator of my own fate.
The door closed with a click behind her as she left our – no, not ours anymore – the house and I heard the faint sound of her car driving away. I had let her go, allowed her to walk away and there was little I could do about it now. Falling back onto the bed, I clenched my teeth together in an effort to prevent the hot tears of frustration and anger prickling behind my eyes. I wished I could have told her I was sorry, told her how much I needed her, told her anything. But I had released her with my silence.
In the living room, my cell phone began to ring, the metallic chime taunting me and daring me to answer it. Sighing heavily, I sat up, swung my legs over the side of the bed and padded from the bedroom.
The End

gaymo, your writing is exceptional. Great job!
Gaymo, very nice, as good as the first time but where is part 2. Don’t tease its not kind :0. Who is on the cell phone?
Whao, that was great, no worries about bruising, because that was phenomenal. Well written, you should continue.
You have a great handle on the way words flow and an excellent vocabulary. The sentences take on a languid quality which reflects Bette’s inertia very well. Perhaps dividing this into chapters would make it easier for those of us with short attention spans.
Five stars and two cold showers (at least). That was HOT, gaymo, and beautifully written.
Wow! This is excellent writing! I wish i could write as beautiful as this!!! Keep em coming please..
I can’t remember where I’ve read this before………but, that’s not important…….I just want more……please! ;D 5-stars

Gaymo..this is absolutely great…more soon….and i love the name..”You big gaymo…” hehehehe
Does the end mean the end or TBC. That was womderful, well written. Letting us know that Tina still loves Bette, but can’t be with her because of all the hurt. Thanks
amazingly written, well done!
This is extraordinary. I loved it the first time I read it and have been longing for a next chapter ever since. Please follow this up with something–ANYTHING!
Gaymo, that was some excellent storytelling. Man…pick me up off of the floor!
This was incredible. As I was reading, I kept thinking that this can only end badly, but I couldn’t stop from reading it anyway…one hand periodically hitting the down arrow button on my keyboard, the other clenching the arm of my chair. Thanks!
WoW! The flow was great, the vivid imagery was very well used and the internal thoughts are well written, graciously weaved into the whole story. Articulate and clear language. Very well done. Like JB said, sex can be a lot of things, it can be about power, reconnection, and other things… and yours have been graciously and beautifully written to reflect as reconnecting as well as asking for forgiveness.
wow. totally impressive writing!!!!
This is sooooooo good, Gaymo. And I know the American went back home so you should have plenty of time to write more for us. Put the Bailey’s down and get busy.
holy hootin’ hell! That was AMAZING! you capture their pain and just, wow, just that’s crazy good. I’m floored really, so glad to read some quality BT emotional storytelling. I hope this isn’t the end for this story!!

Please let it be Tina on the phone. Just asking for some more time. Anything to ease this ache. You are sooooo good at this, gaymo!!
Absolutely wonderful writing – you capture the conflict of continuing love with the pain of betrayal so wonderfully. Exceptional
I’m never writing again. I swear to god. Anything I could come up with would be like lining up a hand tracing that became a turkey with a New York Times best-seller. :D To say this was incredible would be an insult. I still feel the ache in my chest. Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, please write more. Soon. Now? :P 5 stars!!
Hahah cramit! i was thinking the same thing.. right now i feel like i couldnt write anymore… All i want to do is wait for the next chapter… :D Gaymo please write soon… dont let your Portard family down!
