The Triangle of Love – Chapter 5
Once Dana had finished training, she decided to call Alice. She knew she wasn’t working today so didn’t expect Alice to be doing anything important. As the phone was ringing, she again got lost in her thoughts of what happened with Lara. She hadn’t told her friends yet, but knew they’d notice before long.
Alice: Hello? Dana? Are you there? Hellooo?
Dana: Oh fuck, sorry Al. lost in thought again.
Alice: Dana, that’s the second time you’ve been lost in Dana land. It must be nice there, can I visit?
Dana: Trust me, Al, you don’t want to be here right now.
Alice: I take it you spoke to Lara?
Dana: I did.
Alice: And?
Dana: We broke up, Al.
Alice: Oh. Are you okay?
Dana: Yeah I will be. It was the right thing to do for both of us.
As Dana was on the phone, she could feel the tears begin to form. It was Alice’s next question that caused Dana to release them.
Alice: How did she take it?
Dana: She hates me, Alice. She really hates me and I hate myself for letting it get this way. I hate myself for hurting her. I should never have led her on like this.
Alice: Dane, it’s not your fault. You’re new to this dating shit and everyone goes through it.
Dana: Did you?
Alice: Well… I never really dated anyone more than a couple times. I mostly went through one night stands. I guess you could say I’ve never had a proper relationship or been in love. Not even with Gabby and you know how things were with her.
Dana: Yeah I do, her treating you like shit and you taking her back every fucking time she said she’d changed.
Alice: Hey! I was dumb back then.
Dana: Yeah, you’re telling me.
The tears had slowed and Dana was beginning to realise that life will go on, even if she did just break someone’s heart.
Alice: I’ll let that one go, just cause you’re hurting right now. So, what are you going to do now?
Dana: What do you mean?
Alice: Now that you’re single? Are you going to try to meet anyone?
Dana: I don’t know. I don’t think I want to anytime soon, although that is one of the reasons I can’t be with Lara. I guess I could get more experience in dating, meeting new people and things like that.
Alice: Okay. That’s a good place to start. Anyway I have to go, Dane. I have a meeting in an hour and I still don’t know what to wear. I’ll talk to you later, okay?
Dana: Okay, bye, Al.
Alice: Bye Dana.
Alice hung up the phone and Dana pondered the idea of Alice’s suggestions. She figured she could try to meet new people, but for now, all she wanted to do was curl up into a tiny ball and fall asleep, even though it was only 4.30pm. She changed into her pyjamas, grabbed a DVD from the cabinet and put into the TV. Her TV had a built in DVD / CD player, which she was grateful for at times like this. She grabbed her quilt, a few pillows and placed them on the couch. She picked up the TV remote and sat down on the couch ready to watch her favourite movie, Ghost. Not long after the DVD had begun, she found herself falling asleep. She decided to stay up to watch the rest of the movie, before retreating to her comfy bed, which was now Lara-less, and falling into a deep sleep.
