    I was pretty great, wasn’t I?


    This time there was a stunned silence coming from Bette’s end of the line. The longer it continued the more concerned Tina became. Maybe she had misjudged where this conversation was heading, maybe Bette had changed her mind about wanting to come to London. When the waiting finally got too much Tina felt like she had to say something, just to make sure Bette was still there.

    “Bette, did you hear what I said?”

    “Yes, I heard. I’m sorry, you surprised me, that’s all. When would you want me to be there?”

    “Yesterday.”

    “Hmm. How does tomorrow sound?”

    “Tomorrow sounds great. Are you sure that it’s going to be OK at the CAC?” Tina asked, suddenly concerned again.

    “Babe, what’s more important? You or Franklin?”

    “Uh. Me?”

    “You’re not so bad at this question and answer thing yourself.” laughed Bette.

    “Bette, you know that this is just the beginning, don’t you? No guarantees.”

    “Tina, just for one second, let me revel in the moment, please.”

    There was another brief pause while they both let what was happening between them sink in. As Tina sat on her park bench she smiled to herself, knowing that soon she was going to be seeing Bette and finally discovering what was at the heart of their relationship and whether they could recover that to its rightful place. She was snapped out of her thoughts by Bette’s voice.

    “OK, I’ve officially revelled. I know there are no guarantees, there aren’t any in life, but it’s you and me T. That has to mean something, and I don’t think we are at the beginning, maybe we are at the start of something new but it always was and always will be us.”

    “Against the world?” Tina was giggling now and besides she knew that no matter what caution she tried to instil in Bette it wasn’t going make any difference, she was on high and Tina didn’t think that she was going to come down any time soon.

    “You can make fun of me all you like, but you know it’s true. OK, we need to get practical. I need to call Franklin and then book the flight. I don’t want to let you go but I need to make these calls.”

Please let htem have a good reunion in London and let Tina go back home with the idea that she and Bette will be together again and carry on their lives.
