    Those Adoring Eyes

Those Adoring Eyes – Part 3

I opened my mouth to reply, but no words came out, my eyes are blinking furiously as I take in the three words she had just uttered. She left him, but when, why, I thought earlier she had told me that he knew she was at the beach, but didn’t know the reason she was here.

“Did you hear what I said Bette?”

I merely nodded.  I had been thinking about how much I missed her and how I missed telling her how much I loved her and she drops what I would call a bombshell.

I’m not sure what I was going to say to her before she uttered those words, was I going to tell her that I loved her, was I going to tell her that I missed her, if I delve into the depths of my soul, the soul she possessed, and I’m honest with myself, I would probably of told her both, that I loved her and I missed her, her words didn’t change that feeling within me, but now was not the right time to tell her those things.

I continued to look into her eyes, which I now noticed were welling with unshed tears, my heart went out to her, of all the things in the world, to see Tina upset was not something I ever wanted to do, all I wanted to do at that moment was to take her in my arms.

    “Are you okay?”

Tina merely nodded at me; she looked down at her hands as the tears began to spill over.

I swallowed the lump that had suddenly appeared in my throat, I couldn’t control my hand, it automatically reached to her face, my brushing the stray lock that had fallen across her face, my fingers lingered beside her cheek, hovering as her tears fell, I wiped them away, as I had done so many times in the past.

I was touching the woman I loved, I was touching her face for the first time in so many months, I was touching her tears, catching her tears as they fell from those adoring eyes.

She looked at me then, as my fingers were touching her face, she looked at me with those eyes, the glassy eyes that sparkled in the moonlight from above.

    1. Jo your words are put together so thoughtfully and carefully. You put them together perfectly and they are in and of themselves the timeless inspiration that they describe that love can be. You leave me breathless. It’s hard to imagine, but this may have been even better the second time around! Thank you so much!
