Till We Meet Again // A B/T Beginning Story Chapter 22

A mortally wounded Tristan faced death for his transgression. Death for disturbing the harmony. The audience is silently captivated, as Tristan begs for just one moment more, one last look at his beloved and in return, he agrees to the pain of dying a thousand times over.

Tina breaks the silence, reaching out to Bette, the creamy light tone, meets the mocha dark complexion, melting together, “Bette,” her voice falters, full of emotion, discord, “Just imagine loving someone so much, so much that you agree to a thousand deaths, just to spend one more moment with her. Imagine how great a love that would be…”

“Close your eyes Bette, Close your eyes and feel the music. Tear down those protective walls around your heart, let it permeate your soul. Think about that person Bette, that one person for whom you would readily accept a thousand deaths just for one moment more in her presence.”

She ran her hand down Bette’s face, closing her eyes softly as she closed her own.

Her voice enters me, makes me a subject by virtue of the fact that I have been entered. Her touch brings forth vibrations on my skin, moving inside my body. The mellifluous notes of her voice passes through the porous membrane, discrediting the fiction that bodies are separate and apart packages from their environment. I take her in further, swallow and memorize her, processing the beats of her chords with my own.

I find myself lifted, roused from my seat and carried through time in spirit. Faces—some known, some unknown—flitter past me. I see Mom, Dad, Kit, childhood friends, college friends, colleagues, famous artists and intellectuals and then Alice. But the spirit carries me past here, still looking, still searching. And there she is, standing with her back to me, bathed in the light of rays, so pure, so innocent, with wings of an angel. I know before she turns around that one moment in her presence would be enough for me to submit myself to the mercy of not thousand, not million, but an eternal punishment much like that of Tantalus, who has to stand in water but never be able to drink it or that of Sisyphus, condemned to forever rolling a boulder up a hill only to have it roll down again and start over. She turns around…Tina.

Bette’s eyes flew open, disbelieving what she had just seen. She gaped in shock as the curtains fell and audience cheered. She turned to Tina, who was staring straight ahead, with tears streaming down her face. She closed her eyes in rapture. She remembered the matching pounding of their heartbeats as they lay together so many times; the euphonious trill of her laughter and the harmonious chord created when joined together with her own; the steady unique staccato of her heels as they approached her; the tit-for-tat continuous rhythm of their banter; the subtle teasing and titillating of her nerves; the trumpets of victory when she would smile after winning an argument; the onslaught of vibrations that tingled her skin right down to her cores with every touch, every tiny whisper, every breathe. Together they created a symphony, their love—roused by the most varied agencies and instruments—the most harmonious union of all.

There was no fighting it. Bette Porter realized that she was utterly, irrevocably, and eternally in love with her Tee.

    1. You are forgiven, but don’t allow Bette to sleep with Alice because I emotionally can not handle it, ewww. Still waiting for B/T to hook up…feel like I am watching TLW (S3 &S4);). Patience is a virtue that I seriously lack. Great story!!! PPS

    2. Wow Maverick, that was a beautiful chapter! I love the opera, and seeing it reflected in the emotions between our ladies was just perfect. One request…I don’t think I can take any Bette and Alice or Tina and Eric sex!! They need to realise whats right for them. A bit of a swap would be fine, that way noone gets as badly hurt and B&T are left to be happy together! Although I trust in you and the handling of them, and your ability to bring us good drama!

    3. Well, at least Bette has admitted it to herself and they have more or less aluded to it in their thinking especially at the opera. Now it is up to Tina to admit it to herself, and I think that’s what the tears are about. She iscoming to grips with it in her mind at this moment. Wonder how she will square it in her mind because it will be a monumental occurrence in her thoughts when she finally realizes what has just occurred in her mind. Can hardly wait to see how you bring this to us. Please tell me you’ve already written the next couple chapters because it will take at least hat long for them to get their heads around it. I can’t believeeither o them will make love with their spouses after the night at the opera. This is gonna be very interesting. Wondrful update. PPS

    4. Wow! Amazing as always! I really love where this is going, and the fact that Bette has finally admitted her feelings to herself should make this cery interesting. Thanks again!

    5. I am in wonder at how Bette finally realized the truth of her love for Tina. Now I hope she doesn’t try to force herself to fix her marriage in some penance, but instead frees Alice from the prison they have created for one another.

    6. Wow, what a journey through that magical place, but you know I am a little frustrated because of their situation, I mean how can they still be with their partners and working on something that is not going to work while they know where their true feelings are? I mean how can Bette try to initiate intimacy with Alice and Tina with Eric when they know that this is not the person that they should share themselves with. Are both of them acting out of obligation???? Thank you so much for posting and for being such a wonderful and talented writer. Love

    7. Ok..now Tina has to come to the same conclusion as Bette. I’m sure you will give us a lot of drama before these two live happily ever-after

    8. WOW ! This is such an amaaaaazing story, Maverick ! To be honest with you, when I clicked the ” leave a comment ” button and got asked to enter my user ID and password, I couldn’t even remember them at all. I felt completely lost. I was so deeply engrossed in reading this fabulous story of yours I was a million miles away from such practical and down-to-earth reflections. Truth be told, for a minute there I couldn’t tell who I was or where I was and I swear I can’t think of another time such thing ever happened to me when reading fan fic. It actually took me a few minutes to come down from my “trip”. Anyway, I only discovered your fic three or four days ago, Maverick, but I got immediately and completely hooked up on it. I just love everything about it : the slow-burn of course, but also the delightful descriptions of the characters’ thoughts, the witty banter between these two, the way the dialogue flows, the characters’ personalities ( I love, love, love your cynical, blasée, arrogant, yet so utterly endearing Bette ), all of them. In fact, I think it’s great that you didn’t turn Alice and Eric into assholes or dummies because it shows much better how much B and T were meant to be and it makes B and T’s inner conflicts and struggles all the more interesting. I can sense this is only the beginning of the real drama, isn’t it ? In other words, I LOVE THIS STORY and I can’t wait for you to udpate it. I’m sooo completely addicted !

    9. Ahem… ( blushing ) Of course what I meant was that I’m completely “hooked ON” your story, not “UP”… This must be one of those Freudian slip, huh ? ( lol ). Oh, and I also wanted to add that I’m actually kinda glad that you mentioned a summer break because I’ll be leaving on holidays on august, 1st too, so… If you could just post your next two installments by next friday… Yeah, I know I’m slightly demanding ( LOL ! ). Anyway, I realize I haven’t even thanked you yet for this amazing gift of a fic, so thank you so so much for sharing this great story with us.

    10. Mav…this chapter was so beautifully written. I agree with everyone ahead of me in leaving a comment. It simply took my breath away to see the depth of their love for one another expressed so beautifully in words. I could imagine myself at the opera watching the two of them together. I hope the run goes well because I can’t wait for the next update. Please let them find a way to each other before the summer recess…
