Tina Kennard!!

Damn .. Why can’t anyone tell me where she is?

Bette had arrived at the hospital and was desperately trying to find out what had happened to Tina. She struggled to maintain what little composure she had left while trying in vain to get any information she could about what had happened. She wasn’t even sure how she managed to make it to the hospital. She did remember calling Alice to let her know that she was on her way to the hospital and she hoped Alice would arrive soon.

Ms. Porter?

Ms. Porter? Bette had not noticed the nurse that had walked up to her as she was waiting.

Bette jumped at the sound of the nurse’s voice and sprang to her feet. “Tina .. Where is Tina ?? ..”

Ms. Porter, Ms. Kennard is currently in surgery. Someone will come to talk to you when the surgery is complete.

As the nurse was walking away, Alice, Dana and Shane came rushing into the waiting area.

“What the ***** happened Bette?” Alice asked while grabbing Bette into a deep embrace trying to comfort her obviously upset friend.

“I don’t know, I haven’t been able to get any information. All I know is that Tina is in surgery. Alice, Where was she going?”

“Bette, I don’t know, she told me she needed to get some air. I tried to get her to let me go with her but she wouldn’t. Damn it, I should have gone with her like I wanted.”

Shane and Dana look at each other confused.

“Why was Tina staying with you Al?” Shane asked.

Alice had not told Shane and Dana the details, what few she had, of what had happened over the past few hours. She had only called them to let them know that Tina had been in an accident and that they needed to get to the hospital.

“Not know Shane ” Alice wispered in her direction knowing that this was not the time nor the place to talk about Bette’s infidelity ” Right now we just need to concern ourselves with Tina’s condition”

Bette paced back and forth trying to keep herself from falling apart. She thought about the all the good times that she and Tina have had over the past seven years. She thought back to the day she first saw Tina. That faithful day in the gallery. She truly believe that time stood still at the moment she laid eyes on Tina. She knew then and there that this was the woman that she would spend the rest of her life with. Bette had never been one of the those people that believed in love at first site. No No not Bette Porter. A long term relationship was not something she even considered before she met Tina. She was so much in love with this woman, yet she had managed to royally ***** up their entire relationship. For what, a few hours of passion. “Please don’t leave me Tina .. Please give me a chance to make it right again .. I love you T .. Please don’t leave me”

Bette could no longer control her emotions and fell to the floor sobbing uncontrollably.

“Come on Bette, have a seat over here” Alice said gently, trying to lift Bette off the floor.

Several hours had passed without any information on Tina. The nurse at the desk would only say that she was still in surgery.

Bette was sobbing softly, trying to be strong for Tina ” This is all my fault .. If I hadn’t ..’

“Bette.. let’s just think positive right now .. Tina is going to be just fine .. I know it” Alice insisted even though she wasn’t totally convinced herself.

“Which one of you ladies is Bette Porter? .. The nurse told me she was over here” Bette turned expecting to see a doctor but instead was greeted by an older gentleman who had blood stains on his shirt and pants and his hands heavily bandaged.


Noticing that Bette was focused on the blood stains he quietly said, “Sorry I couldn’t have cleaned up more before I came to talk to you. The ER folks just finished patching me up and I wanted to find you as soon as I could.”

Seeing the confusion in everyone’s eyes, the gentleman introduced himself as William Boyd. ” I was with Tina after the accident”

“Oh my God” Bette thought as see looked at this man’s face and his body, realizing that the blood that soak his clothes was probably the blood of her beloved wife Tina. With that she begins to sob and shake uncontrollably. Alice and Shane do their best to provide her with support. Bette finally manages to find her voice to ask this stranger ” What happened?”

“Well .. I was sitting at a stop light when I noticed this car coming up behind me. I could tell that the car was not preparing to stop so I made an attempt to get out of the way. At the last minute, Tina must have realized what was about to happen because she tried to avoid hitting me and instead ended up running head on into the side of a building. “

Bette let out a loud sob that startled William.

“I’m really sorry .. do you want me to stop?” William asked apologetically.

“No, please continue” Bette said through her tears.

“The force of the collision must have ruptured the gas line because it wasn’t long before there was an explosion and the car was on fire. I ran over to the car and was able to pull Tina out of the car before it was totally engulfed by the flames. “

Is that how you hurt your hands? ” Dana interrupted

“Yeah, but I am ok. Just some burns… Bette, Tina was conscious when I got her out of the car and she just kept calling your name. I used my cell phone to call 911 and then I tried to talk to her to keep her alert. She lost consciousness right before the ambulance arrived. The last thing she said before she passed out was tell Bette that I love her”

With that declaration, Bette was overcome with so many emotions at that same time. Love, fear, sadness and most of all guilt with the belief that it was her doing that had Tina in this situation.

“This is all my fault!!, She should have been at home, in our bed asleep in my arms. Instead, she was out .. getting air .. trying to clear her head of what I had done to her. Please Tina .. .Please be ok. Please baby .. give me a chance to make it up to you”

As Shane, Dana and Alice tried to comfort Bette, a doctor appeared asking “Who is Bette Porter?”
