    Tina Chapter 4

Over the next several weeks, Tina saw Lauren almost every weekend. They had fun together and they were growing closer. Conversation flowed easily between them and soon they knew a lot about one another. Emotionally they had begun to connect, while their physical relationship was somewhat slower to progress.

Every time Lauren tried to move Tina beyond kissing, she met resistance. Tina would freeze up when Laurens touched moved to more intimate places. Lauren knew Tina was coming out of a seven-year relationship and that her feelings were still raw. Lauren and Tina had spoken about Bette and Lauren understood where Tina was. Lauren was full of desire for Tina and wanted badly to make love to her, but knew if she pushed she would scare her away. So, she waited. For Lauren Coyle, Tina Kennard was worth it.

Its Monday morning and already Tinas day was hectic. She had been up late watching old movies with Lauren and now she was tired. Her phone started ringing when she walked into her office and never seemed to stop. It was almost lunchtime, when her phone rang yet again.

    Tina Kennard

Tina. Its Chris. We have a problem

Ok. That seems to be the theme of my day. Whats up?

Our film is in trouble. I just got off the phone with Mark, our location director and it seems as if MOCA has backed out of their agreement to allow us use of the museum to shoot our final five scenes. Apparently they have landed a big show at the last minute and they say we would be too big of a distraction. Since they were allowing us to use their place au gratis, we have no legal right to force them. We are screwed. You know the project can not afford any delays. We need another museum Tina. do you know where I am heading with this?

Tina sighed into the phone. She knew what was next. Yes Chris. You want the CAC. And you want me to get it through Bette right?

You see Tina, thats why you are the best. Youre a smart lady, Chris responded, a smile in his voice. Please Tina, can you try. We need some strings pulled here

Tina groaned, knowing she couldnt say no to Chris. She hadnt seen or spoken to Bette in over two months.

Sensing her hesitancy Chris pleaded, Tina please. You know we are working on a shoestring budget. This type of delay can kill this project. Can you try please?

Of course I will Chris, Tina responded, knowing she owed Chris. I will talk to her as soon as I can and let you know.

Tina hung up the phone, having felt her stomach flip several times. She had to talk to Bette now; there was no avoiding her. Call or visit she thought to her, unable to decide

Tina walked into the CAC feeling bit apprehensive. Last time she was here was the end of her life, as she knew it. It was odd, but Tina felt a sense of home here, even though it was full of bad memories. She must of lost track of how long she was just standing there, as she felt an arm touch her back.

Turning around she was met with a smiling James, Tina! What a great surprise! James hugged her hard, almost lifting her off the floor. How are you? You look great

Im good James. Im good, Tina responded, smiling widely at James, feeling genuinely glad to see him. How have you been?

James responded by shrugging his shoulders and arching his eyebrows. Its been tough around here. The show left us with a lot of problems and well, Bettes been um, how can I say thisa challenge to work for.

Just the mention of Bettes name stirred Tinas nerves. She smiled sympathetically, I understand James. She is lucky to have you. God, its good to see you.

James smiled, appreciating the warmth in Tinas voice. What brings you by today Tina? Are you here to look at the art?

No. I need to see your boss, Tina raised one eyebrow and smiled flatly. I know I just dropped in. Is she here today?

Shes always here Tina. Always, James responded a look of concern crossed his face. Come on. Ill tell her youre here.

Tina followed James to Bettes office. Walking through the museum was almost a dreamlike experience for Tina. She actually felt stronger than she thought she would. She can be there she thought. She can handle this.

James phoned Bettes office before opening the door.

Bette. Tinas here. Tina. Yes, your T, James looked at the phone realizing that Bette had already hung up.

Before James could return the phone to its cradle, Bette had come out of her office.

Tina was unprepared for the Bette that stood before her. She had lost weight. A lot of weight. Bettes clothes hung on her like on a hanger. Her face looked sunken and her eyes were dull. Tina drew in her breath at the sight of Bette this way. She couldnt help but be concerned.

Hi, Bette said, standing in front of Tina looking somewhat nervous.

Hi Bette. I am sorry to drop by without calling first.

Thats no problem. Bette stood awkwardly while looking, almost staring, at Tina.

Bette broke herself out of the trance like state she was in. Come into my office, Bette led Tina into her office and closed the door behind them.

Have a seat. Its good to see you Tina. You look great, Bette voice was becoming softer now, almost shy like. How are you?

I am doing pretty well. Work is going ok and things are coming along. How are you?

Bette was looking at Tina like she was soaking her in. Im alright, she said, shrugging her shoulders.

The conversation faded, and Bette and Tina simply looked at one another. The silence between was beginning to thicken, when Tina decided to get to the point of her visit.

Clearing her throat, Bette, I am here for work. To be totally honest, I need a favor. The project I am working on hit a big snag. MOCA has backed out of an agreement to allow filming at their museum. Since they were doing it for free, we have no legal recourse to force them to let us shoot. Now, we are a week away from filming, with no location. We need a museum to film at. Desperately

Bette watched Tina speaking to her. She saw her lips moving and heard her voice, but she was having trouble concentrating on what she was telling her. Tina was sitting in front of her and Bette wanted to drink her in. My God I miss her. I love her so much.

Bette? Did you hear me?, Tina asked.

Tinas question broke Bette out of her haze.

Um. Yes. You need the museum for filming? Those MOCA folks can be a pain Bette responded, unable to repeat the entire conversation.

The filming would only last a week and I promise they will not cause too much trouble. We are desperate Bette. We really need the help, Tina asked Bette with a pleading smile.

Tina could have asked for the moon and Bette would have gotten it for her. All this explanation was not needed. Bette would give her what she wanted, whatever she needed.
Of course you can use the CAC. We could use a bit of positive publicity here. The scenes are going to be ok right? I mean…

Of course Bette. I would never bring trouble to your work. The film is a Fame remake, upbeat and positive. There should be no problems with that. Chris will call you and fill you in on any details you need for your people. I really appreciate this Bette. Thanks so much, Tina smiled at Bette, her eyes were soft and warm.

Bette felt her insides melt. Those eyes and that smile. Bette drew in a deep breath, concentrating on holding herself together, as all she could think about was how she could keep Tina here.

    Your welcome.

    Tina?

    Yes, Tina responded.

Are you around the set a lot? I mean, will you be here too? Bette asked, holding her breath, hoping Tina said yes.

Yes. I will be here. It should only take a week or so and I want to be sure everything goes well, so I will be around most of the time. Tina smiled at Bette knowing their conversation was nearing an end and not wanting things to get awkward.

Tina stood up and prepared to leave. Ill let you get back to work. Ive got to run.

Bette stood up a look of fear crossed her eyes. She did not want Tina to leave. She would have kept her in this office forever if she could have.

It was good seeing you again Bette. Im glad you are doing ok, Tina smiled at Bette and picked up her bag. Id better go. Chris will call you tomorrow with all the logistics and thanks again Bette. I really appreciate your help.

Its no problem Tina. Im glad Bette was beginning to stammer, wanting Tina to stay longer, but having trouble finding the words to keep her there. Bette recognized her demeanor and quickly got herself together.

It was good seeing you again Tina, her eyes locked into Tinas.

Yeah, you too Bette, Tina broke their stare, turned around and headed out of Bettes office.

Bette watched Tina slid her door shut and slowly sat down behind her desk. She placed her elbows on her desk and held her head in her hands. The tears rolled slowly down her cheeks as she quietly sobbed
