    Tina Chapter 6

Bette walked into the house and grabbed her old address book. She quickly picked up the phone and called her old friend Lindsey. Lindseys partner, Melanie, a psychologist, could help her find a ***** therapist. After catching up with Lindsey, Bette got what she called for and immediately after hanging up with Lindsey, Bette called the doctors office. Dropping Melanies name got her an appointment that afternoon.

Bettes appointment with Dr. Carnes lasted almost two hours. Bette felt more at ease with a ***** psychologist. She was shocked to realize two hours had past when Dr. Carnes told her their time was up. When she left, she had another appointment for the following day, as Bettes case was seen as high need.

Bette lay in bed that night thinking about how one day can truly change things. All she wanted to focus on was where she was going, not the past, but the present and the future. Her priorities were out of whack, and these past months alone made it crystal clear what was truly important, which was Tina and their life together.

Two hours of therapy, with a doctor she immediately felt comfortable with and liked, lightened Bettes spirit. One thing the doctor told that really resonated with her was not to expect the journey to be easy, but to be easy on herself. These were big challenges for Bette, changing old behaviors and coming to terms with parts of herself she would never before acknowledge. Hard times lay ahead for Bette and she knew it. Although there was much uncertainty in her life right now, one thing she felt totally sure of was her love for Tina. Bette feel asleep that night dreaming of Tina, and thinking of how she was going to get her back.

Tuesday afternoon, Bette walked into the CAC feeling pretty good. She had seen Dr. Carnes that morning and Bette felt as if they were laying a strong foundation for future visits. Bette liked her a lot and knew she would continue their appointments.

James met Bette outside her office, Hey. I thought you might have taken the whole day off.

Nope. Im in for the afternoon, Bette smiled at James, looking more relaxed that she had been in months.

James watched Bette go into her office, eyeing her suspiciously, wondering what was different about her today.

While Bette was feeling better, Tinas day was plagued with problems. Things were hectic with one ***** up after another. She was growing anxious as expected deliveries were late, staff was absent and some driver trying to deliver some equipment had damaged a portion of the loading dock at the CAC. Tina ripped into the driver over that one and knew Bette would be angry. Tina told Chris to budget for the repair, as they were totally responsible, and she wanted it fixed immediately. She would tell Bette later, and hoped she was in a good mood.

Bette decided she wasnt going to venture out of her office today, not wanting a repeat of yesterday. It was only Tuesday and Tina would be around all week, if not more. She would see her again. Soon.

It was early evening and Bette was working at her desk when she heard a soft tapping at her door. Come in.

The door slid open and Tina walked in.

Bette was surprised by the unexpected visit. Once the initial shock wore off, Bette smiled, clearly happy to see Tina, Hey, come in.

Hi Bette. Listen, I know its late, but I noticed your light on. Can I talk to you about something? Tina moved into Bettes office and sat down.

Yeah. Im just catching up on some reading. Bette slid her glasses off her face smiling warmly at Tina. Whats going on?

Tina looked uptight sitting in the chair and a look of worry crossed Bettes face. Tina? Is everything ok?

Well, Tina started, drawing in a breath before starting. It seems there was a problem at the loading dock. One of our equipment folks backed the truck up too far and damaged your dock. I have already called Chris to authorize repairs. I just wanted to come by and let you know and apologize. It will be fixed as soon as possible Tinas grimaced and looked at Bette, watching for signs of anger.

Bette looked at Tina, raising her eyebrows, Hmmm. How bad is it? I mean, did the driver get hurt?

No, nothing like that. I mean, he might have got his feelings hurt when I laid into him, but no physical damage. Although I did feel like smacking him around a bit, Tina smirked, trying to make Bette smile, hoping she wouldnt get angry.

Bette laughed at Tinas attempt at Ms. Toughie Project Director. Dont worry about it Tina. Were not expecting any deliveries for a while anyway. Accidents happen.

Tina had expected a somewhat different reaction and looked at Bette with mild surprise. Tina stood up and walked over to Bette. Hey? What did you do with Bette Porter, the hard-nosed museum director? In the closet? Did you abduct her? Is she under the desk? Tina playfully peeked under the desk.

Bette laughed, genuinely amused by Tinas playfulness. Watching Tina tease her, Bette wondered where this Tina had gone during the last year and how both of them allowed their relationship to slide.

Is that the big problem you are here to see me about? Bette asked, still smiling from Tinas antics.

Well, yeah. It is. I thought you would get more upset, but I am glad youre not, Tina responded, obvious relief in her voice.

It can be fixed. How was your day other than the wreck? Bette asked, trying to keep the conversation going, not wanting Tina to leave.

Nuts. I had so many problems today it was unbelievable. I am so tired and I am starving.

Bette saw her opportunity and took it.

Me too. Do you want to go and get some dinner? Bette asked, watching for Tinas response.

Tina immediately looked uncomfortable and started to back away from Bettes desk. Um, I cant tonight. I already made other plans.

Bettes mood changed, as Lauren instantly entered her mind. Really? A dinner date? Bette asked.

Tina had walked back to her chair and was gathering her things to leave. Well, I wouldnt call it a date, Tina was clearly rattled. More like just grabbing a bite to eat

    With Lauren? Bette asked.

Tina felt her breath catch in her throat and the color drain from her face. She was completely caught off guard by Bette knowing Laurens name. Tina looked at Bette, not able to immediately answer, sticking her hands in her pant pockets, shifting from one foot to another.

Yeah, actually with Lauren. How do you know her name Bette?

I saw her with you yesterday and called Alice. She told me her name. Bettes eyes were fixed on Tinas, refusing to let go of the stare. So, youre dating? Bette got out of her seat and walked to stand next to Tina.

I guess you can call it that, Tina answered, clearly flustered.

If there was one thing Bette could count on was Tinas physical attraction to her. That attraction had ignited their relationship that night in the museum. She remembered when they were first together how easy it was for Bette to win Tina over using that power. Although Bette didnt want to take advantage of Tinas weakness, in this situation the rulebook was out the window. Bette felt desperate and would pull out all the stops to get Tina back.

Well, since you are dating, then have dinner with me, Friday night, Bette spoke softly to Tina, moving closer to her.

Tina was caught off guard by Bettes request. She felt totally flustered by Bette, her soft voice, and her body so close. She was losing her poise and she knew it. Dinner huh? Tina was trying to recover her composure.

Yes. Dinner. No strings, no expectations. Just dinner. Tina, please? Bettes tone was soft, seductive and pleading, as she moved the tips of her fingers down Tinas arm. Bette was slowly and systematically disarming Tina with her smile and her charm.

Ok, Tina smiled, nodding her head slowly. Dinner on Friday. Tina spoke softly now, feeling off balance, but not scared.

Bette smiled and held Tinas eyes with her own while she reached for Tinas hand to pull her closer. Bettes other hand quickly slid behind Tina to the small of her back, drawing her body into Bettes. Bette moved her face towards Tinas, smiling as she noticed Tinas breathing begin to quicken. Bette lowered her head, moving to kiss Tina when she heard a knock at her door.

Hey. I thought I heard you in here, Lauren poked her head in Bettes office. Oh, Im sorry. I didnt mean to interrupt.

Tina quickly moved away from Bette and began to gather her things.

Its ok Lauren. I was just leaving.

Bette, keeping her composure in check, walked towards Lauren, extending her hand, Lauren? Im Bette Porter. Ive heard about you.

Bette shook Laurens hand, looking directly into her eyes, Bettes face unreadable and emotionless.

Really? Lauren responded, slightly unnerved by Bettes gesture. Well, hopefully good things.

Lauren smiled, removing her hand from Bettes. Lauren quickly regained her poise, and stepped further into Bettes office. Nice little museum you have here, Lauren said, looking around Bettes office. She would not be intimidated by this woman Lauren thought to herself.

Lauren moved to stand directly in front of Bette, smiling brazenly and meeting Bettes stare. A strained silence began to grow in the room.

Clearing her throat, Tina interrupted what was quickly becoming an uncomfortable moment, We should go Lauren. Im hungry.

Of course Tina. I dont want you to be hungry. As Lauren spoke to Tina, she looked directly at Bette and smiled. Lets go

Good night Bette, Tina said, turning around to walk out of the office.

Bette looked only at Tina, Good night Tina.
