Shane’s POV

Two days have passed now since I broke up with Paige. I felt bad for her, but relieved at the same time. She could have been the perfect girlfriend for me. She was funny, sexy, honest and patient. But nevertheless I knew that my feelings for her were not strong enough, so I had to do it.
There was one thing she said which I couldn’t forget. She told me to fight for Shay. And this was the first time since the accident when I felt ready for this fight.
I knew that my chances to get Shay back hardly existed, but I knew I had to try it. I knew that if I didn’t talk to my father at least, it would have killed me inside.
I told Carmen about my plans and she wanted to drive me all the way up to Oregon. I told her that I wanted to take a cab, but she insisted, which I was so thankful for at the end. I needed someone whom I trust to be there and to support me. I didn’t know what I was able to do if dad didn’t allow me to see Shay anymore, so it was good, that she was there prevent me from doing something stupid again.

While she was driving I was very quiet. I looked out of the window and hardly said anything. She looked over to me and placed her hand on my thigh. I looked at her.

“Whatever is going to happen today, Shane. The fact that you drive all the way up to talk to your father proves that you love Shay and I’m sure that he knows that. You’re the best sister anybody can have.”, she told me.

I nodded and smiled weakly. She was right. No matter what’s going to happen, at least I can say that I’ve tried to get him back.

Finally we arrived and now my nervousness was totally out of control. When I tried to get out of the car with my crutches I almost felt on the ground. Carmen got out of the car, too and helped me out.

“Hey, look at me. I know it must be hard to get inside and trying to convince the man who disappointed you the most. But he’s still your dad and he will understand how important it is for you to see your brother, okay? So don’t worry. And in case he doesn’t want you to see him I will be there for you.”, she said, giving me a kiss on the cheek.
