Turn Is About Fair Play – CH64

    Tina & Alice
Tina roused a very unhappy to be woken Alice from her sleep, forced her into the shower, and waited for her to come out while she fussed around trying to find something for Alice to wear. Alice was in better spirits after the shower, but was still fussing about needing more sleep.

Tina, its Sunday for crying out loud, Alice fussed as she took weighted strides back to her bedroom.

Quit whining Al, itll be worth while I promise, Tina smiled to herself.

Why in green acres did you make plans for a Sunday? Alice huffed. Especially this one, when you start your new job tomorrow, Alice plopped down on the bed.

Tina brushed Alices wet, matted hair, and giggled. She was tickled that Alice was out of the loop for once and that she had the one up on her. A bonus she was ready to let go of so easily.

Alice, please stop fussing, Tina pleaded. You know I dont ask for much, so can you please just do this without anymore fussing or questions?

Alice sighed in concession and gently pushed Tinas hand away as she reached for the shirt Tina picked out. Once she was completely dressed, Alices disposition softened and she was game for whatever Tina had in mind.

No too shabby my dear, Tina teased and they walked out the apartment.

    Bette
After finishing lunch and being more than full off of ice cream, Bette drove over to the CAC to review the collection of paintings for the upcoming exhibit and to check her email. She hadnt checked it from home as she usually did seeing as shed been preoccupied with Tina, so she took advantage of the present opportunity. Bette reclined in her plush chair, pulled the keyboard onto her lap, and typed in her password and waited for the familiar ring tone. She scrolled through the usual invitations, seminars, lectures, and such before coming across one from Melvin and one from Rayne Bryant; and smiled at the latter. Rayne was still an enigma to Bette and while she knew little about Raynes personal life, she couldnt help but feel a slight attraction toward her. Bette quickly dismissed her wanton thought and opted to read Raynes email after Melvins.

Why did he send mail her? Bette questioned out loud. She clicked the read button and read the content.

Elizabeth: Since our last conversation, I have given some thought to the things that were said and I although Im reluctant to conceded, I must admit my wrongs. Bettes eyes widened in disbelief. I will not address your infidelity because that has nothing to do with me directly, even though Im appalled that you would do that. Anyway, after careful consideration, I would like to apologize for causing Tina any discomfort around me and I would also like to apologize for not recognizing the meaning of your relationship with her. I hope that you can pass on my apology to her and accept it for yourself.
    Your Father.

P.S. If you havent already, I suggest you try to work with Tina to improve your life with her and before you turn into a bitter, arrogant, and malcontented person. You have the potential to be, its in your genes.

Bette stared at the monitor is utter bewilderment. She had no idea what prompted Melvins change of heart and as much as she wanted to immediately respond, the words eluded her. Bette reached for the phone to call Tina and then Kit.

Tina, hi its Bette, Bette voice was harried. I know you said you had things to do so I wont keep you. I just read an email from my father in which he apologized to you. Yes, thats what I said. He apologized. I know, I was shocked too, Bette paused. Im going to forward it to you, so you can read it yourself. Thats it, Bette was about to end the call. Oh, wait. One more thing, Bette smiled. Thanks again for staying with me last night, you were wonderful. Have a nice day, Bette was now beaming and hung up the phone.

    Tina & Alice
Tina remained mum on where they were going, but made it seem like they were going to grab a bite to eat and have Alice meet someone whom Tina thought would be a good candidate for Alice to write an exclusive piece on and Tina was interrupted by her cell. Hello? Oh, hey. Its okay, I have a few minutes. You what? Im shocked! Alice was whispering questions, but Tina waved her off. Did he say anything else? Okay. Huh? Me too, Tina blushed. Thanks. Tina hung up.

Who was that? Alice sat up.

Bette! Tina replied casually as not to reveal anything.

    Everything cool?

Yeah, she said her father apologized to me in an email and that she would forward it to me, Tina replied in a cool tone.

Wow! Alice made a curious face. Maybe ***** is freezing over cause I never woulda guessed he even knew the word, Alice chuckled.

I hear ya, Tina concurred, hoping the conversation would end there. Fortunately for her it did because Alice was still too preoccupied with the mystery person.

Are you sure about this Tina? Alice winced nervously as they approached DeLurias, a swanky new age lounge and restaurant.

Of course Al, Tina reassured. I met her and I think shes really nice. You could write a special interest piece on the benefits of having and knowing people in various walks of life, Tina tried to convince Alice who seemed to be more nervous by the minute.
Youre probably right, but Tina, Im still feel tanked from last night and might not be up to snuff ya know? Alice made a pleading face.

Ah, dont sweat it. You look fine, you smell pretty, and I think shell probably be more nervous than you anyway. Youre the journalist remember? And a trained professional, Tina smoothed her hand down Alices hair.

    Bette
Bette dialed Kits number and waited, temporarily forgetting about Raynes email. Hey Kit. Are you busy? Bette cautiously asked because Kit sounded like she had company.

Hey baby gurl, Kits voice was rich with enthusiasm. Not busy, but could be if ya know what I mean, Kit said with mischief in her voice.

Cut it out Kit, you better not be, Bette sassed. Its Sunday, got to be a good girl, Bette said playfully.

Yeah, whatever kiddo, Kit waved her hand in the air. Anyway, what can I do for you? Isnt this the second time today?

Bette laughed at Kits lightheartedness. It was refreshing and warm. Yes, you get an A+ for today, Bette continued to be playful. I do have a reason for calling you back though and its not to make you leave the house.

Then what? Kit questioned. Gurl you know its Sunday and its my day to get my relax an chill on. So, stop ya beatin roun da bush an tell me whats on ya mind, Kits ebonics tickled Bettes ears.

Daddy emailed me today and apologized for being an ***** to Tina, Bette blurted out.

He what Kit emphasized. Is he dying or something?

Kit! Bette chastened. Dont be like that.

Why not? That man never apologizes. I was just checking is all, Kit backed down.

No, hes not dying, Bette stated. I think hes finally coming around and starting to see that Im, I mean were not little kids he can boss around, Bette said proudly.

Hey, ya neva know I spose, Kit sat on the balcony. Is that all he said?

He went on to tell me I need to make right with Tina and to get myself in check because the apple doesnt fall far from the tree, Bette replied.

Dayum! Souns to me like you go told lil gurl, Kit giggled.

Yeah, it kind of does doesnt it? Bette laughed too. He has a point though. And speaking of getting right with Tina, she spent the night last night, Bette said in a shy voice.

Kit immediately stood up and almost dropped the phone. Nuh, uh! Stop playin wit me, Kit said loudly.

Girl, I aint even playin, Bette mocked. She and I shared an absolutely marvelous night, Bette gushed.

Girl, yall need to work yall ***** out first an stop effin around before yall end up inna worse mess than yall already got goin, Kit said with authority.

Kit! Bette was hurt. You mean youre not happy for me? For us?

Aww, baby gurl, you know I am, Kit said soothingly. I just dont want yall to get caught up in the ***** and ignore what happened ya feel me?

Yes, Bette sounded like a hurt child. What youre saying makes sense and were going to work things out the right way, but Kit, it was just so beautiful and so unexpected that I couldnt help myself. I wasnt even the one who initiated it, Tina did, Bette stated as if it would make a difference.

Bette, sweetheart, it dont matter who started what, Kit advised. What matters is that yall were in a bad place and now things seem like theyre getting better, but that doesnt mean you cant slow it down and do things the right way. Court, date, grow again, Kit paused. Look, I aint tryin to sound like ya mama, I just wanna see yall do this right okay?

Bette considered Kits advise and smiled to herself. Kit never ceased to amaze her with her sage wisdom and hoped that one day everything in Kits life would go well for her. She deserved it.

Okay, oh wise one, Bette chuckled. Thanks for the wise words and for letting me vent. I love you.

    Love you too.

    DeLurias
Alice and Tina seated themselves at the bar and ordered drinks. They sipped them as they gazed around for Tinas mystery person.

Hey look! Alice yelled, to be heard. Its Bev!

Tina tried to be discrete. Yeah, youre right. Wonder what shes doing here?

Dunno, but she sure looks yummy, Alice suggestively stated. Lets go say hi while we wait, Alice grabbed Tinas free hand.

Slow down A, youre gonna make me spill my drink, Tina steadied herself.

Hey Bev, how are ya? Alice eyed Bevs framed that was fitted with sienna colored, lightweight suede pants, and form fitting, western blouse. You look great. Never seen you all decked out before, Alice complimented.

Well, Ive only seen you in jeans and a t-shirt, but this is a nice look for you, Tina echoed Alice.

Bev blushed hard. Thanks. I guess I clean up well. How are you both? Hows the car?

Were fine, Tina spoke for both of them as Alice continued to ogle Bev. And the cars fine so far.

Are you meeting someone? Alice asked.

Yes, as a matter of fact she is, Tina replied for Bev. Shes here to meet you, Tina said candidly.

Shes what? Are you serious Tina? Alice was stunned. This is the person you were talking about?

Yup! Gotcha good didnt I? Tina pushed Alices mouth closed.

And you obviously knew? Alice asked Bev.

Pretty much, Bev smiled. I asked Tina if she could get you to come out,

Really? How come? Alice was still trying to make sense of the scheme.

Well, I really like you and the only time I hear from you is when you need something, so I asked your friend here if shed do something for me and she agreed, Bev volunteered.

Tina shrugged her shoulders as if to say, hey, what can I say?

Tina, you little sneak, Alice laughed. I cant believe you got that over on me. Glad you did though, but Bev you could have asked me yourself you know, Alice turned her attention back to Bev.

I thought that, but wasnt sure how youd take it, so I asked Tina instead. I hope youre not offended? Bev sincerely questioned.

Oh, not at all. Actually, Im flattered, Alice admitted.

Well ladies, it looks like youve got everything under control here, so Ill be leaving. Enjoy your lunch and getting to know each other. Alice, you can call if you need a ride, Tina turned to walk away.

Ill drop her off Tina, Bev volunteered and Alice nodded.

    Okay. See you guys later.

    Bette
Bette swirled around in her chair, her mind filled with erratic thoughts. Both James and Kit agreed that while they were happy for Bette, they couldnt help but caution her to keep things at a slow pace. Bette inclined herself to go with their advice, but that determined part of her wanted things to go her way. The connection she was feeling toward Tina was better and stronger than ever before and she believed they were ready to be friends and so much more again. Bette was determined to do whatever it took to inspire Tina, and for some odd reason Bette thought about Ivan and then it hit her why. He was old school! He was into wooing and courting, which flattered most women and made them feel special and wanted. Bette could learn from Ivan if she could see past the fact that he wanted Kit. A relationship she was still couldnt comprehend. But understanding aside, Bette needed help and would enlist Ivan if necessary.

In the mean time, Bette knew she needed to keep her thought clean, so refused her attention back to at the CAC and for Rayne Bryant if she was to ever get out on her own, which was something Bette very much wanted. Bette turned back to Raynes email.

    Bette
Im going to be in town within the week and we need to talk. I still want you to meet the staff at the graphics company I told you about as well as the reps from DIA Entertainment. It will be an opportunity for you to take your boss out your butt, relax, and do a meet and greet in a stress free environment. I copied your cute little assistant in case he got the email before you. Plus, I want him there too. Dont make me regret calling you Bette and getting you in on this deal. I know you had an issue the last time we spoke, lets hope it was nothing serious and that youre ready to take this leap. New York would love to have you in their corner, not to mention other places (wink). Anyway, keeping it professional, (haha) respond ASAP and we can get this show (no pun intended), on the road.

    Rayne

This is great! Bette said out loud. This is the distraction I need to calm me down and keep my mind out of the gutter, she laughed and prepared to reply to the email.
