So nobody freaked out the next morning? When you guys woke up on the porch swing together? Shane asked Bette, amazed.
Bette stood up and stretched, glancing at the clock in the kitchen. Nope. We kinda just woke up and grinned goofy grins and had breakfast and coffee.
But did you guys talk about anything? I mean, I know you talked, but what about anything real… about your relationship and past.
Yes, but not until the end of the week. Shane watched Bette bend over and touch her toes. She was amazed at the stellar shape she was in even after all the years. Bette was no spring chicken and Shane marveled at how Bette always looked at least five years younger than she was. She remembered how beautiful of a couple Bette and Tina were. When they were together, it looked like they were made for each other and their mutual beauty stopped people on the streets.
Is that why after the trip you guys never pursued anything?
Bette nodded.
That bad, huh? Shane grimaced.
Another nod from Bette.
Will you tell me about it?
Bette nodded and sat down next to Shane again, feeling less stifled and stiff after her stretches. She had needed a quick time out to regroup and loosen the muscles in her body and her heart.
Maybe you should talk more about the happy times on the trip first. Shane offered as she saw pain flash through Bettes tired eyes.
Would it really matter though? Bette asked. Look at where Tina and I are at now. Its not like the happy times make any difference. We still ended up worlds apart.
Without the happy times, you wouldnt have that soft smile on your face when you tell me these stories about you and Tina. Shane pointed out.
Bette glared at her.
Hey, I was just observing! Shane laughed. Now, how about you tell me some more happy stories about that week before the final blow.
Ill try. Bette replied.
Good.
Bette took a deep breath. Lets see… what to say?
Well, how about you tell me how you guys ended up having ***** that week. Shane replied.
