    Walking After You ch.1

Someday you’re going to leave me. Someday you’re
going to wisen up and realize that I’m not the one for you. Where will
I be then? I will be somewhere you’re not and how will I be able to
    handle that?

Bette contemplated Tina’s still form beneath the
sheets, a foot away from where she herself lay. It was nearing
midnight, but as usual, Bette could not sleep. Instead she used the
unearthy light of the moon coming in through a window to guide her eyes
down Tina’s body. Underneath the sheets she knew Tina was naked. Tina
had never taken to sleeping in clothes. In the two months that they’ve
been living and sleeping together, Bette had never seen Tina sleep clad
in nightclothes. Bette absently fingered the collar of her flannel
pajamas, noting the contrast between the warmth of the fabric on her
    cooling skin.

I had a dream that I never met you.

Bette narrowed her eyes, trying to make out the color of
Tina’s hair. It was still dark enough that Tina was painted in shades
of black. Bette heard Tina’s even breathing, and suddenly that sound
frightened her. In. Out. In. Out. Just like day and night. Night and
day. The passage of time marked so unconsciously, so incidentally.
Bette wished she could make it stop, but how could she? Tina breathing
was the only thing that anchored Bette in the uninterrupted night.

I had a dream that I lost you. And you let me.

Something started to crawl around inside Bette’s
gut. It felt like a caterpillar with feet of fire. Bette felt it extend
feelers to her throat, where something painful tickled. Bette belatedly
    realized it was dread.

I just know this is going to end.

It was finally morning. Tina awoke slowly, becoming
conscious of heat and pressure first. She felt Bette’s back pressed
against hers and couldn’t help smile. She was still puzzled why Bette
seemed to always push against her in sleep. She’d wake up with Bette’s
palms imprinted on her back, or with Bette’s feet planted against her
butt. She reasoned that Bette probably felt hot in the night and had to
push her away to get cool. Whatever distance Bette kept at night, she
made up for in the morning.

Tina turned in place and spooned Bette’s warm body.
Bette stirred slightly but didn’t wake. Tina knew that Bette probably
spent the better part of the evening awake. When they first started
living together, Tina made it a game to tire Bette out with sex every
night so that she could get to sleep easier. Their first week together
was incredible. However, pretty soon Tina herself came home exhausted
from work or school and didn’t have enough energy for marathon sex.
Bette didn’t demand anything. Instead, she would hold Tina until the
latter fell asleep, and spent the rest of her insomniac vigil watching
    her love and thinking.

“You know, I wish you’d wake me up when you can’t
sleep.” Tina murmurred into Bette’s unruly curls. She knew Bette was
still asleep and couldn’t hear her. She’d made the suggestion before,
to an awake Bette, who only responded with a smile and a shake of her
    head.

“It’s not fair that I’m off to dreamland while you
figure out the fate of the world.” Tina sighed and gave Bette’s nape a
    kiss.

“Someday Bette, you’re going to let me visit your midnight place.”

“Huh- wha-?” Bette’s groggy voice made Tina smile
the way only Bette could. She gave Bette a quick squeeze in her arms.

“Good morning love. Did you sleep well?” Tina nuzzled the back of Bette’s neck.

“Nmm…” Bette groaned and pulled Tina’s arms closer around her.”I had a dream…”

        “About what babe?”

“You were leaving me…” Bette woke completely and tensed up, “… for a man.”

        Tina laughed out loud.

“Yeah, I know. Crazy right?” Bette let out her own rueful laugh.

“God, Bette. Do I have to tell you that will never happen?”

“I don’t know Tina. Do you?”

        “It will never happen.”

        “Coz you’re gay?”

“Well, I was thinking more of coz I love you.”

“Okay.” Bette tried to forget the previous night of
dark thoughts and ominous imaginings. If Tina says it’s so, it is…
    isn’t it?

    1. first of all, congratulations on a well deserved award…i’m glad you decided to do sequel, please don’t make it too dramatic…true love exists and B&T have it (at least in my world)…don’t forget the other story, i love them all

    2. I swear your version of Bette sounds so much like me it’s scary, especially now realizing she can’t seem to sleep at night. I’m happy to see you continuing with these two because this was the most original take on Bette and Tina I have ever read here. I’m looking forward to reading more of this sequel. :)

    3. Congratulations on the award! I truly enjoyed ‘I Fall Behind’ and was really getting into ‘Angels…’. I do love this start though. Maybe, just maybe S3 is all just Bette’s long, heartwrenching nightmare. Right now, it’s ours…oh, the horror. Where shall we go from here? Thanks for sharing.

    4. First, a big congratulations on your award, 7pm! Your writing is refreshing to say the least. Second, I am excited to see how the sequal is going to play out. If there’s going to be drama in yor story, I know I’ll be able to handle it. Ilene hasn’t tapped me out quite yet…however I feel like I’m walking that fine line.

    5. I was so happy to see your name in lights!!! I love your writing…you are a wonderful storyteller. Congratulations on the award, and thanks for continuing with this story!!

    6. First, congratulations 7, I came late to your story but what little I saw made it clear you deserved the award. I’m so glad I can follow this one from the beginning.

    7. For those of you the site’s server had decided to suddenly make you anonymous, try going to author or mailbox login with each visit. You might get your identity back. I did. Fight for who you are!

    8. welcome back and congrats on the award! I smell some trouble lurking with this one. s3 has me bummed also, but it is authors like you that give me what i crave for these 2 characters.

    9. 7PM, I usually can’t post comments because of a clash between my computer system and the site. I’ll try again here. I’m not ‘Anonymous’….I’m Merlin (TMerlin)…Your first chapter here is intense- it’s drawing me in with the rich writing style and ominous feel of what’s in store for B down the road. I’m looking forward to the next one. Congratulations on your award. Cheers.

    10. Congrats on the award well deserved…im enjoying the new story looking forward to more but im kinda sorry that “Angels never came down” is on the back burner i really loved it so hope that youll eventually get back to it thanks for this one too!!

    11. “…caterpillar with feet of fire.” — Wow! If your post is a book, 7PM, I’d never put you down till I reach the end. Congratulations! Cheers!

    12. Many thanks for this and yes t can be that simple. Whether you gay or not if you love someone you’ll be there. Congrats on you award you truly deserve it.

    13. Congrates on your award it’s so well deserved. I know only too well how real life is and how its so hard to get the time to put anything worthwhile down but oh you do it so beautifully.

    14. ugh, all these spoilers with B & T has me utterly disgusted and upset to my stomach!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m giving up on them and the show!!!!!! GOD I HOPE THEY’RE NOT TRUE, ESPECIALLY THE PART WITH BETTE, THE PART WITH TINA I CAN UNDERSTAND, NOT THE LAST EPISODE FROM WHAT THOSE SPOILERS MENTION!!!!!!!!!!

    15. Yes it can be that simple. Love is a very powerful thing. Congratulations on the award. It was very well deserved. So glad for a sequel. Thanks so much for the story…looking forward to more. Once again, congrats.
