Chapter 10
Well, it has happened. I hate it when this happens. One of my babies is ill, this time its Mattie. This makes it worse. With Mattie being so small and being born so early, illness for him always seems to be worse than it ever was for Angie. I’m sat with our baby born, who is curled up in my lap, he is covered in chicken pox. I’m holding him close to my chest as he just wants to comfort of knowing that his Mommy is here, and I am. His other Mommy seems to have lost the plot, she panicked the moment Kit phoned us to tell us he was covered in them this morning.
“I feel so guilty,” Bette says as she walks into our living room where Mattie is sleeping in my arms.
“Why?” I asked, as she sat herself down and put down Mattie’s cup with OJ and my coffee mug.
“Because we were having a night of passionate sex and our little boy was itching himself so much he was bleeding at one point.”
“Don’t be so dramatic.” I say looking down at Mattie, I ran my fingers though his hair.
“I’m not!” Bette said, taking a drink of her coffee. “It’s worse for him!”
“No its horrible whenever you get chicken pox, do you remember it?”
“I had them on my fourth birthday, dad had bought me roller boots and I couldn’t wear them because I had them on the bottoms of my feet. Just like my baby boy does now.”
“I remember having them, I just remember being itchy.” I admitted, looking at our son again who opened his brown eyes and looked at me. “Hey Mattie,”
“Mommy, I’m itchy.”
“It’s okay, Momma got you some cream.” Bette smiled as I spoke and went to get it from the bathroom, my son is wearing shorts and a t-shirt but I can see that he is in pain from the spots.
“Can I have a drink please Mommy!”
“Sure buddy!” I moved slightly and picked his cup and gave it to him, Bette returned and opened the cream that smelt terrible, but I knew it would make my son better. He held onto me while Bette slowly covered him in it. I held him close. Just as she was finishing Angie walked in grinning,

Poor little guy, that stuff is the pitts. The mittens are a great idea, scratching is so not good, it just gets worse if they get infected by scratching. Chicken pox is alsonsible for another ailment that we don’t usually see until later life, the “shingles.” Shingles is carried within the chicken pox virus and is deposited within your body. Thankfully not everyone gets shingles but the possibility exists if you’ve had chicken pox. There is the possibility that Alice could already have the virus if she has been playing with and kissing and hugging on Mattie becaus the virus is working on the body 10 days before the irruption of the blisters, that would serve her right for always being so nosey and sticking her nose in other peoples’ business. And in that case, she has probably infected Tasha as well. Poor Tasha to be stuck in the house with Alice for several days until the blisters go away. That should not be put upon anyone to have to be with Alice is sheer madness. Poor Tasha. But plenty good for Alice, I hope she gets them. lol
