What should have been-Ch.1
Dana arrived home from her photo shoot feeling alive and liberated. No longer did she have a greasy, male pig of a P.R leaning over her shoulders telling her who she should be. She could be a professional tennis player, be openly ***** and, most importantly be happy. She also felt fairly sweaty and smelly so Dana ran up her stairs and jumped into the shower.
Once washed and dressed she gussied herself up in the mirror. Out of the corner of her eye she saw sitting just to the right of her mirror was a Polaroid taken last week of her and Lara, enjoying a rather fast melting ice cream. Pouting from the memories Dana picked the picture up to take a closer look. The regret from the other night swelled up inside her tummy and threatened to force tears from of her eyes. She put the picture down and turned back to her reflection, her face now determined and focused. “Ok Dana, you’re gonna march your sweet ***** over to Lara’s place and get your woman back, no matter what.” she smiled to herself and stood back, trying to act sassy. “Because you’re ***** and you’re proud, and you don’t care who knows it.” she finished, laughing to herself.
Dana grabbed her bag and a jacket, now feeling less confident and more like a quivering plate of jelly. She took in a deep breath and left her house. As she made her way to Lara’s, Dana’s mind was racing with possible scenarios. She pictured Lara opening the door with a young, ***** model hanging off her arm. Or opening the door, seeing it was Dana, then slamming the door in her face. She knew neither of these was very likely, but easier to handle than what was actually waiting for her behind Lara’s door.
She reached her destination and sat in the car for a minute, begging her nerves to calm down. She didn’t want to act like a babbling fool, it was about time Lara saw a different side to her. She checked herself out in the mirror one more time before getting out,
“Ok be cool Dana, you can be cool. Just BE COOL.” she murmured to herself as she made her way to Lara’s front door. All the other times she had stood in front of Lara’s door came flooding back to her. The thrill of just seeing Lara being enough to keep a smile permanently plastered across her face. The sudden possibility of rejection was enough to calm Dana right down as she reached up and pressed Lara’s doorbell.
She counted the seconds that ticked by: one, two, three, and four…
The handle clicked and the door opened. Lara stood there, she wore jogging bottoms and a t-shirt, her hair was down and she looked stunning. Dana momentarily forgot why she was there as her eyes met Lara’s blue depths. She shook herself mentally and cleared her throat, when she looked back up Lara had put her arms across her chest and her eyes were now cold and hurt.
“Lara, Ive come to apologize.” Dana stammered, her voice sounding weak and pathetic to her ears.
Lara continued to stand there, waiting as if Dana were just some salesman doing a pitch, which she had to stand there and listen to before shutting the door in his face. Dana tried to ignore her coldness, she knew she deserved it.
“I want to explain why I said what I said to you, because I didnt actually mean it.” Dana paused, desperately trying to find the right words. “I was upset about work and I thought I had to lose you and lose the ***** me altogether. And seeing you just brought it all to the surface and I reacted really badly, but thats all changed now, I can be *****; the promoters actually want me to be *****!”
The nerves began to build as Dana talked and babbled her way through the story, wanting to say so much more. She stopped herself, her eyes searching Lara’s for any glimpse of hope.
“You humiliated me Dana.” she said at last, her voice flat and her face stony.
Dana swallowed hard, wanting more than anything to make her smile, to take back what she had done, to kiss those sweet lips again.
“You hurt me as well; I would’ve understood yunno, just because I’m a chef that doesn’t mean I won’t understand things that are slightly more complicated than chopping carrots!”
Her words stung. Dana knew she deserved it, her last resort of going down on her knees and begging didn’t seem like such a bad idea anymore.
“No Lara, the reason I didn’t say anything is because I thought you’d think I was weak. You’re so confident about yourself and I’m not, I let people walk all over me, and I knew thats what you would say to me!”
Things were becoming heated in a different way to what they usually were like between Lara and Dana, but the more they argued the more Dana wanted to grab her and kiss her.
“Dana, you were just gonna be someone you’re not because some rich suit told you to. I wish you would stop finding excuses to hide yourself behind some straight and confident exterior.” Lara’s voice was softer and her guard had melted away. “Because you’re so beautiful Dana, just the way you are.”
Tears were brimming in both girl’s eyes, Lara stepped forward and pulled Dana to her. They held each other as if one might disappear if they let go.
“I’m so sorry, I miss you so much.”
Dana was lost in Lara’s smell; the feel of her pressed against Lara was almost too much. She buried her face in Lara’s neck, holding her so tight. Lara let out a laugh of joy in amongst her tears and kissed Danas hair, also lost in the sudden rush of feelings.
“Dana, I thought I’d lost you.” Lara pulled back and held Danas face between her hands, looking Dana directly in the eye. “Just don’t do that to me again baby, ok?” she whispered.
Dana smiled, nodding. She was lacing her fingers in Lara’s hair, the other tracing Lara’s spine softly up and down her back. The look in both girls eyes changed as they realized how close their lips were to one anothers. Dana’s heart swelled to twice its size as she saw that look return to Lara’s eyes.
Their lips met, Lara’s gently grazing the surface of Dana’s. Instantly they both tensed and the kiss deepened. Dana let out a whimper as their lips melted together, tongues intertwined, searching, tasting. Lara pulled desperately at Dana’s clothing, her hands gently running over Dana’s soft skin, causing goose bumps to follow in their path.
They parted, needing to breath. Dana was feeling so elated she could have run a marathon purely on happiness. But she had another type of exercise in mind as she pulled Lara’s top up, over her head. Her lips tasted Lara’s soft skin on her shoulder and traveled over her collar bone to the nape of her neck. Lara moaned, holding the back of Dana’s head. She pulled her face back and locked their lips again. In amongst the passion Lara managed to push Dana back wards, still kissing, towards the bedroom.
Danas eyes sprung open as her legs came up against a bed. Lara grinned mischievously at her and pushed her back, quickly following as she crawled on top of Dana. Lara deliberately moved her knee in between Danas legs, pushing gently to get a response. She didnt have to wait long as Dana reached up and brought Laras lips down to hers and kissed her furiously. Dana needed and wanted more, a steady ache building up between her legs as Lara moved her knee against her jeans.
Dana began pulling at the back of Laras top, pulling it up over her head. As soon as skin touched skin they both grabbed at each other clothes, desperate to be closer, unable to resist the sweet temptation of one anothers creamy, soft skin. Lara covered Danas body with hers, and they began touching and stroking, becoming familiar again with every curve, every inch of skin. Lara brought her mouth back up to Danas, her hand snaking its way down Danas body.
Thank you. Dana whispered, feeling tears stinging her eyes again.
Lara looked into Danas eyes properly, her hand suspended on her lovers thigh, craving to go deeper.
For what baby?
For taking me back.
Lara smiled and kissed Danas lips tenderly, her fingers making circles against Danas thigh. She could tell from the absolute look of desire in Danas eyes that she was driving her crazy, but Lara knew Dana would never say.
I cant say no to you, you know that already.
