    What Time Can DoPart 11

[Bette is about to pull back onto the street when she felt Tinas hand touch her thigh.]

Tina: Bette, theres something I need to tell you.

    Bette: What is it Tina?

Tina: I too had a plan. Much like your rose, I had something to give you. I had come to the conclusion that tonight was the night. I was tired of standing at the fork in the road. One direction was you and trying to rebuild our life together. The other direction was to walk away and try to move on without you.

    (Pause)

Tina: Bette, I had 2 keys to choose from(pause)I left one key, Alices spare key, on the table along with the note I wrote her. The other key belongs to you and only you.

Bette: (Looking at Tina a little confused)Im not following you Tina.

Tina: (Shyly smiling at Bette)The key to my heart. I gave it to you a long time ago but I never got it back. Not completely that is. No matter how hard I tried to close the door you always had the key. (Pause) Please Bette, guard it with you life.

Bette: (Teary eyed and a bit speechless)Tina, I give you my promise. That may not mean that much right now but someday it will.

[They sat there and just stared into each others eyes for a moment.]

    Bette: (Softly)Lets go home.

    Tina: (Whispering)Ok.

[Bette pulled back out onto the street and headed for home, their home. She reached over and turned on the radio. Her favorite CD, Joshua Kadison, was in the CD player. Bette had listened to this CD so much while Tina was gone that it had become like a security blanket.]

Youre my peace of mind in this crazy world.
Youre everything Ive tried to find, your love is a pearl.
Youre my Mona Lisa, youre my rainbow skies,
and my only prayer is that you realize youll always
    be beautiful in my eyes.

The world will turn and the seasons will change,
and all the lessons we will learn will be beautiful and strange.
Well have our fill of tears, our share of sighs.
My only prayer is that you realize
youll always be beautiful in my eyes.

You will always be beautiful in my eyes.
And the passing years will show
that you will always grow ever more beautiful in my eyes.

When there are lines upon my face from a lifetime of smiles,
when the time comes to embrace for one long last while,
we can laugh about how time really flies.
We wont say goodbye because true love never dies.
Youll always be beautiful in my eyes.

You will always be beautiful in my eyes.
And the passing years will show
that you will always grow ever more beautiful in my eyes.
The passing years will show that you will always grow
ever more beautiful in my eyes.

[Tina sat through the entire song staring out the window hugging the flowers Bette had given her. Once the song ended Bette looked over at Tina and saw tears running down her face.]

    Bette: T., are you ok?

Tina: (Still looking out the window)Yeah, Im fine. That was a beautiful song.

Bette: (Speaking softly out of embarrassment)Its your song T. Every time I hear it I think of you. If you only knew how much I listened to it while you were gone.

Tina: (Turning towards Bette)Im not gone now, Im right here.

    (Pause)

Bette: (Pulling into the driveway)Tina, were here, were home.

[Tina had not been here since that night, the night she thought their life was over. It still looks the same, yet it looks so different. Taking a deep breath Here we go.]

Bette: (Shutting the car off then turning towards Tina)T. before we go in, theres something you need to know.

Tina: Ok Bette, but can it wait until we get inside?

Bette: No Tina, its about the house.

    1. Okay If you don’t post tonight. I will spend all day at work wondering what’s next. But if you do it’ll be okay. I’ll just dangerously speed through traffic until I reach home to flick on my computer. HA! Love your story.
