    When Hope Is Lost

“Oh, believe me he is! He hung on your every word today, as you explained to him what we’ll be seeing tomorrow. I love that little boy and am so excited to be his Gramma. I had so much fun making cookies with him… He’s so intelligent and so keenly aware of the world around him.”

“Yes, I agree, I enjoyed my time with him, even though he kept calling me Mr. Porter.”

“Well, that is your name.” Genna said knowing that this rigid man was breaking down to the Angel boys’ powers and she felt so elated with that thought. “What do you want him to call you?”

“I’m not sure, it’s just that Mr. Porter sound so formal.”

“So, what… maybe Grampa or Poppa, or something similar to that, perhaps?” Genna said as she saw that gleam in his eyes as she gave him those options. “Oh, isn’t that interesting?”

“Pardon? What are you talking about?” he said to her as he tried to hide his emotions, but he knew she had him.

“You know exactly what I’m talking about Melvin Porter. You are softening up to that little boy, aren’t you? He just wants to know you because you are his momma’s daddy. Bette and he love one another so deeply; they were meant to be together and I think it is very brave of her to want to be a single mother. I want to support her in this, whether you want to or not.”

“Genna, I finally understand the error of my ways, believe me. I’ve almost lost them because of my ignorance and stubbornness. I can’t afford to loose them, as my heart would surely break. I will admit that the little guy got under my skin today and I see how wonderful a mother she is to him. I want to support them as well.

At least I did something right in raising Elizabeth and Katherine to be good, intelligent women with generous hearts and to be compassionate for those who have less. They grew up to be good adults in spite of me, and my ways. I am grateful for that.”

“You are a good man, Mel, and I’m happy that you see a better way to be with our daughters, and having a grandson like Ozzie is a blessing, He is such a delight and I love him already.”

“Yes, thank you Momma, I guess we should also head up to bed. I love you, Genna, thank you for being patient with this old fool.” He said to her lovingly and then they shared a tender kiss.

“I’ve always seen the amazing man that you are. I’m just happy that you finally let him out of his cage. Let’s go Poppa. Tomorrow is going to be exciting.” She replied as she stood up, reached for his hands and soon they were in their bedroom getting ready to bed. After doing what had to be done, they met in their bed, kissed and then lain down and accepted sleep.

    1. I’m not sure what to think about Melvin, really, or Bette and Kit’s attitude toward him, knowing what they know. Maybe now that Melvin wants to actively be a part of Bette, Kit and Ozzie’s lives, they can let him know that they’re aware of what happened with Maxine and their newly-found siblings and they can all start afresh… At least they’re all making the effort. Thanks for posting. :)

    2. Wonderful chapter. We all should have an Ozzie in our lives. As Kit said he is an angel on earth. I’m so happy that he has softened Bette’s attitude toward Tina and I really want Ozzie to meet Tina, both with hazel eyes and such, he will be instantly loved by Tina, and she by him. Can’t wait for that meeting. Glad old sourpuss is softening up to Ozzie and I think he will be the catalyst in getting them back together. I suppose with his eyes and his other features he would look like the the baby boy they lost. Great chapter. Thanks for posting.

    3. Forgiveness is all that matter im so happy Melvin came to his senses he really needed to apologize to Bette and Kit for neglecting them but he also owe a major apology to Tina for disrespecting her numerous of times but mostly to Maxine foe what he done to her could never be forgotten!
