When the Day Leaves You, 4

Alice slid into the booth and anxiously waited. She looked around the diner at all the undesirables until resting her eyes on Dana, sitting only a few booths away…tearing nervously at a napkin. She mouthed, “I’m proud of you,” and as Dana’s middle finger flew up, Shane slid in across from her, causing her to jump. “Jesus Christ! Didn’t your mother ever teach you that it’s rude to just sneak up on a person.”

“I guess it slipped her mind. So, are we eating?” Alice put her hand to her chest to catch her breath. “Yeah, just give me a minute.” Shane smiled and rested her arms across the back of the booth. “You are such a drama queen.”

“I beg your pardon? I’ll have you know that I am no priss, okay. See that one, over there?”

Shane turned and looked at Dana. “Now that’s what a drama queen looks like, got it?” Shane winked at Dana causing her to snap upright and quickly look at her menu; before dropping it and wiping her hands on one of the napkin pieces sprawled out in front of her. “See what I mean?”

“Is that your girlfriend,” Shane asked. “Uh, nope. Just a friend. My best friend…it’s actually a funny story…”

“So, are we going to eat anytime soon? I have to get back.” Alice grimaced, “Get back? Get back where? I thought you were coming back to my place.”

“Did I say that on the phone? Oh, because, right, yeah, I have to meet up with someone later, so it’s not going to happen tonight.” Alice looked as if the wind had been knocked from her sails. “Well, that just sucks.” Shane, seeing the disappointment in Alice’s face, leaned forward and said, “Hey, I’m here now, so, what did you want to ask me?”

“Oh, yeah, I guess…I can interview you here.” Shane tapped her fingers on the table top as Alice reached for her pad.

Bette was standing on the back deck, staring at the pool when she heard her cell phone ring. She walked into the kitchen and picking it up from the table, saw Tina’s number. “I was hoping you’d call.”

    1. ARGH okay what was the prescription??? will bette something that she found the bottle, or will she wait til tina comes clean??? very illegal to leave it hanging, lol :)

    2. I’m thoroughly enjoying this story… Tina is not wasting any time – I hope that’s not an indicator of how sick she is. I’m guessing its a poor prognosis given how upset Gracie became when they spoke about her illness. Uggh…more soon please…I have too many questions!

    3. Oh dear. I don’t want anyone to be sick or ill… I suddenly want my old blankie and lots of cuddles… If it wouldn’t utterly make it useless, I’d do like Joey and hide my laptop in the freezer cos it’s getting all scary… I’ll keep reading, though, with one hand over my eye. post (something happy) soon, gp, I’m liking this, even though I’m worried. thanks

    4. I would have never guessed that it was Shane that Alice was meeting up with. Good job with an anxious Dana. And please, no death! Thank you, girlporter.

    5. Girl, this is becoming most intriguing. Don’t kill Tina in this story though…she’s already been killed in 3 of them that I’ve read so far…keep her safe and B&T together please. You’re getting a little too good with these cliff hangers though.

    6. Does Tina have leukemia or cancer? Sh*t I hope Tina’s not anywhere close to dying. I surely hope the title doesn’t have anything to do with passing away. I’m on the edge of my seat, girlporter. Thanks and PPS! :>

    7. ditto to what jp said, I think my laptop’s going in the freezer till you post the next one, and the next and the next after that because all these nail biting cliffhangers are killing me, so …. what’s Tina taking?
