Wherever You Go, There You Are

    Chapter 21

Bette wasted little time leaving Kit after Angelica had departed.  But their conversation didn’t leave her mind as quickly.  If it’s true and she had no reason to doubt Kit, she’s going to have to do some hunting to obtain Tina’s number.

Still Bette’s mind was slow to grasp the reality, “Wow could it be true?  How could all of them loose touch with Tina?”

The notion that all of them letting Tina go seemed pretty unbelievable to Bette.  “Did they all stop reaching out to her or what?”  Bette is simply finding this occurrence too hard to believe.  Tina had always been everyone’s favorite.  The one they all turned to for advice and motherly care.  She needed to find an answer to this dilemma and for that Shane is her first choice.  Alice was next on the list but somewhere in the back of her mind, Bette was having a hard time believing Alice knew nothing.

Bette doesn’t want Angelica to think she’s being followed so instead of talking to Shane face to face Bette realizes she’s going to have to call her.  It’s just as well because she wants some privacy when she reaches out to Tina.  With her mind made up, Bette heads to her own house any thought of returning to work gone.  She’ll make her calls from home.

There Bette appreciates the irony in the fact that now after all this time she is actually going to reach out to Tina.  In her heart it seems the ultimate quirk of fate that the only promise Bette thought she could keep, the promise to let Tina go, she was now going to break.  It seems she just can’t keep any of her promises to Tina.  There was sadness in Bette’s soul when she reaches this conclusion.  This promise had meant so much more than a mere promise.  To Bette over the years, it became a vow that Bette had accepted, a pivotal peace offering that permitted her to move on with her life.

This bargain with herself, for Tina, was a sealed deal for Bette.  In a play that is all about letting go this was the final act, the surrender, her acceptance.  But apparently life was just going to keep coming at her.  Fate wanted one more act to unfold.

    1. Hello Jwet, I think both Bette and Tina hold the keys to each others heart. They have spend so very long trying to bury the one thing that makes them who they are, their passion, their love, their life. It is hard to read that Bette actually felt her cancer was a just reward for the pain that she had caused Tina. I wonder in all of that is happening with Angelica when these two souls meet and finally find one another will it be the final extinguish of the fiery love that they still hold for each other, or will it be the recognition that in their own ways, what they did was never meant to hurt the other. That they will look into each others eyes and realize that the sacrifices that they have made by staying away from each other have only strengthened their unrequited love. I just wonder how Tina would react if she found out about Bette’s cancer, and how she viewed it, I think Tina would be hurt to realize how much suffering and torment Bette put herself through, and that that is the reason Bette didn’t go to find her, Bette was giving her the freedom she thought she wanted when all she wanted was to be found. You are a wordsmith beyond reproach, Keep up the amazing work, Sincerely, JC

    2. Sounds like you’ve had these two grow up well beyond reaching the age of majority, Jwet. Pity that’s when it happens for so many of us, or that it never happens for some regardless of the years they exist.

    3. Please reunite baby A and Tina soon. I feel so bad for Tina. Things with Bette will work out in the long run…but for now, just let Tina and Angelica communicate. Have I said I love this story…

    4. WOW… This was a very powerful chapter Jwet. this bit : -“…”I swear I love you so much that I’ll never come looking for you.” Bette pronounced up to the evening stars…”- completely brought me to tears… you have reflected marvelously this time in their lives… Please post soon, you’re doing a terrific job!

    5. You are a wordsmith, but who the hell deserves to DIE for making a mistake?? No Bette is not perfect, she is human, just like Tina is not perfect, who has also made many many mistakes, and portraying Bette as some kind of monster, even to or especially to herself, is getting really really old. I vote that everyone just regards themselves and each other as human beings who do the best they can, no one is Satan, no one is God.

    6. Jwet, I do love this story and just wait with baited breath for each chapter. But, this was the saddest chapter of any story I’ve read in quite a while. How can you love someone so much and not try to make amends or accept the overture they are making. When all either of them wanted was for the other to come back or come looking for them. they have wasted so many years being without the one they love the most in the world. This chapter made me so sad and made me cry for them. Hopefully tina and Angelica will find each other very soon, like NOW, and then maybe Bette and Tina can see the love in each other that they have missed and tried to put behind them. Let them recognize, once again, their other half in themselves. If only they could have talked with each other. Some of this heartbreak, sadness, and emptiness could have been avoided. PPS

    7. bette waiting on tina to come home, tina waiting on bette to come after her. looking forward to the next post-i can’t waith to see how the family will reunite

    8. JWet, WOW so powerfull and both B&T still with so much pain. I just hope they can come together and be happy. Angie should call her mom and let her know she is OK. Thank you PPS

    9. Wonderful chapter. It lets the reader know why and how each one of the ladies came to their decision of not reaching out to the other. Bette letting Tina go as her last show of her real love for Tina and Tina wanting desperately for Bette to come find her. I hope in later chapters that they discuss this and come to realize that by giving what they thought the other needed they lost the one thing that they held dear to them and that was their love.

    10. When I was young; I couldn’t wait to ne a groww up; now that I’m supposed to be a “grown up” I question if I am. You showed the “grown up” Bette and Tina so well. I wish I had that type of enlightenment; you provide the next best thing. Do we get a “bonus” post this weekend since no college football???? Thanks for sharing.

    11. Wow! Jwet, you continue to amaze me with every word you put on paper. Once again, a moving, emotional, extremely profound chapter. Your selection of words placed just so, I find similar to when one writes music. The placement has to be just right for it to come together and form that beautiful tune. You’ve once again done well. Keep up the terrific work.

    12. JWET…as others have said, this and the previous 2 chapters are fantastic. YOU have been able to put into words the pain and torture of loosing one’s soul mate, the love of your life. B&T have sacrificed for the other but through their guilt and anger, they both have now learned how precious it is to have and give love in our lives. Decisions are made in a point of time and time does change how we think and feel so hopefully, lost love will be found again! I am privy to your writing before you post but I must confess that these last few chapters have caused a lump in my throat, tears in my eyes and on my cheeks, and screams of ‘NO…NO…NO…B & T don’t give up on the love you have for the other’. JWET, you are truly a gifted writer as you can scribe into words, for the rest of us, the emotions that we all feel. My heartfelt thanks! I hope your hectic schedule slows down for you soon. Have a great weekend!

    13. Beautifully written, Jwet. Sad as this was, I can only imagine that it will become more heartbreaking once they meet and realize that they continued to hurt each other through their separation… so many wasted years. Enjoy your weekend!

    14. Bette and Tina are locked into painful choices made so many years ago and hopefully Angelica will set them free. Thank you for such deeply moving, lyrical and masterful story telling.

    15. You know sometimes we have to go full circle to end up where were suppose to be. Please hurry up and get these two together so they can realize this, besides I truly believe even without having been raised by both of them, Angelica is their daughter.

    16. Haven’t been on in months…as you know, but I got on this morning and couldn’t stop reading. I’m sure I will have be on more now so I can see where this one goes. As always your story leaves me wanting more…
