    Window of Opportunity

    Chapter 5

Kit was the first to arrive and it was so good to see her. My day had been solitary with me reliving too many memories. It was time for fun and I welcomed Kit with a huge smile and a larger hug. Kissing her cheek, I let her know how good it was to see her and I ushered her into the house.

“Baby girl, it is good to see you but what has gotten into you?” she asked with a smile.

“It’s been too long and I’m glad that you could make it. Can you help me set out the rest of the food? I have all sort of things and most of it is already out there but these last things needed to be refrigerated.”

Kit just looked at me like I had two heads “What kind of food do you have that needed to be refrigerated that I did not bring from the Planet? Baby Sis, please don’t tell me you are trying to cook again? You so know that did not go well for you last time.” Although I know she was just joking there was so much truth. The last time I tried to cook was soon after Tina had left me and I had finally gotten tired of eating carry out. I decided against my better judgment to try to cook a roast. I have no idea what I was thinking but suffice it to say, the oven is new because the last oven, did not survive that attempt and luckily, Tina had always insisted that there be a fire extinguisher in the kitchen or the whole kitchen may possibly be new. I just looked at Kit and smiled.

“No Kit, I still am sticking mainly to the grill. I had a caterer prepare some dishes to go with the food I plan on making. There are also all kinds of juices and waters so please, help yourself. I am going to fire up   the grill if you could grab the platters, “and with that I left a somewhat speechless Kit in the house.

I had gotten propane earlier so I knew that the grill would be in good shape. I figured that I could go ahead and cook up the food so I could enjoy the time with the girls. I heard a little ruckus and saw Shane coming through the gate. She had a smile on her face and a case of beer in her hand. She was talking on her phone and just waved in my direction as she walked over to throw some of the beers in a cooler. When she was done, she was also off the phone and walked toward me over a beer. I pulled her into a hug that lasted a minute longer than it needed to on the surface but long enough for me to let her know how happy I was to see her.
