Window of Opportunity ch. 73
“The something borrowed comes from James.” She handed me a broach that had I seen in an antique store, I would have immediately bought. “His grandmother gave it to him for his bride to wear but we all know that ain’t gonna happen. When we were talking he felt that it should be used for his favorite people and asked me if it wouldn’t take away from your outfit if you would wear it.” I could not believe the generosity of these people in my life.
“Al, it’s beautiful. Was he sure?”
“Tina, he worships Bette and adores you. He cried as he asked if we thought you would be willing to wear it. I think he’s sure. Let me put it on.” She pinned it on without sticking me and it did look wonderful.
“The something blue today is something purple. When we went to pick up the garter, Angie was with us and kept saying only purple. That child of yours had an all out fit when we tried to explain that we needed blue. After consulting with Helena and Tasha, it was decided that this is not the most traditional wedding so we went with purple. Need help putting it on?”
“Al, the day your hand gets that far up my leg will be the last time you use that hand,” I laughingly told her as I pulled it up my leg. Just as I was finishing, Shane came in. Alice grabbed her bag and said she would be right back. She needed to give Bette her garter.
“Shane, thanks so much. The earrings are beautiful.”
“I’m glad you like them. I was told to let you know that Bette loves you. Thank you for the gifts. You and Bette went way overboard Tina. I really don’t feel right taking the stuff you gave me.”
“Shane when we talked about gifts, Bette and I knew you would have a hard time accepting them from us. You have to know that we love you. We only did the gifts because we do love you. Please don’t feel weird. You would not have recognized Bette when she found that chess set. Seeing her jumping around and yelling was so unlike her but she was so happy that she found something she thought you would love. You have to let us do things for you some time. You do so much for us that we may have gone overboard but we had to take advantage of today, you probably would let us.” We hugged and she again thanked me. When we were finally able to break away, I asked her how she thought I should wear my hair. She opened up her bag and pulled out a tiara. I just looked at her.
“I was told a little girl didn’t get to wear one at her birthday party because she was sick. Well today’s party is a little different than a child’s birthday party but that little girl is now a beautiful woman whose woman wanted her to have the chance to wear that tiara. Bette said that her Princess needed to look like one on such a special day.
Just that little gesture was what could have pushed me over the edge. It was so many months ago in one late night conversation that I had mentioned that to Bette. For her to have remembered and gone out to get a tiara made me see again how wonderful she is. I always told her that she didn’t have to do grand gestures. Just her allowing me to live out a childhood dream was all I needed. As Shane started on my hair and makeup, I couldn’t wait to see her standing there waiting for me. I didn’t need a piece of paper to validate my feelings for her. It meant so much to her and it would in one more way unite her, Angie, the twins and I together as the family we were. Today already had the starting of the most perfect day.

I’ve been trying my hardest to catch up with this story, and so far haven’t succeeded, so I wanted to leave a comment now since it may not happen for a while. I’ve grown to really enjoy this story, and your wonderfully considered backstory for Tina has me really wishing yet again that we’d seen something, even just an episode’s worth, of her family onscreen. Thank you for writing both Tina and Bette with such care and thoughtfulness.
**Sigh** I love this story…I really do. Angie and her colour purple, Bette and Tina so happy, all the friends and family there…it’s just such a “feel good” story. Thanks NAG for updating it.
We’re going to the chapel and we’re gonna get married. Can’t wait to get to the wedding.
I have difficulty writing a note and here you push out 10 pages very often of the highest quality writing. PPS.
the perfect end to a wonderful evening of reading….ty.
the tiara dream….angie will love it too as well as the lavendar…thx 4 posting.
Wonderful chapter NAG, thanks so much for posting it. Such a loving story and chapter for the girls and family. Everyone is taking very good care of Tina and so it should be. This story is so thrilling because they were already a family of friends but now with Tina’s parents involved, Tina’s birth father, Charles for Kit, Amy for Shane and a man for James and everyone is included in the family makeup. So wonderful for all of them because now they are a close knit family whether by blood or acceptance of intimate frieds as family. So wonderful and loving. Thanks for writing this chapter and posting with all that is going on in your life at the moment. Post when you can.
That little Angie is one “head strong Porter” LOL so purple it is. Thanks for posting, I love the depth of your writing in each character. Hello G it’s me :o).

Brilliant chapter !!!! really looking forward to the wedding.Loved the comment about the if Alice’s hand was ever that far up Tina’s leg she would not use it again, i bet that Bette would have something to say about that if that did happen as well lol.Your still torturing me because i can’t wait for the wedding chapter so please post soon Thanks
Beautiful. Wonderful. Torture. Can’t wait for the I do’s !
Awww, Tina’s gonna fulfill a childhood dream! A glowing Princess wearing a tiara exchanging vows with her Destiny. Lovely! You know, in the early chapters, Bette & Tina’s narration were slightly different. But even before their NC trip, the way they recall events and each other’s emotion or reaction are almost identical now. They really see through each other’s mind and heart now. Yep, they are truly soul mates. And your motormouth Alice is adorable and totally cracks me up! Thanks for another well-crafted, wonderful chapter, NAG! Looking forward to the wedding chapter. :>
wow… loved this chapter… it seems i keep checking to see if you have updated on either story… thanks for the time you put into each one… kiss the baby for me… PPS
So wonderful and loving!!!! Thank you Now bring on the wedding. Thanks
This is such a sweet and loving story. It shows that family can be blood and very special people such as wonderful friends. Bette and Tina are so lucky to have friends who would do almost anything for them. Those same friends have been included in Tina’s biological family so it comes full circle. Pretty soon it will offically the Kennard-Porter gang and family. Thanks for the post.
