    Working Late

Tonight, however, was unfortunately not one of those opportunities. She’d had orders from above to woo Carlton Bramwell and ensure this season’s exhibition was a roaring success.  Grimly, Bette accepted that wooing Carlton Bramwell clearly didnt take into account the fact that she had feelings too.  Or at all, judging from the shrieking dressing-down she and the CAC were currently receiving.

Something that Carlton barked into her ear made her glance at the clock on her office wall.  Her heart sank.  It was almost eleven, which meant that dinner with Tina was out of the question.  For weeks now, it had seemed that every time they had wanted to make plans, the CAC got in the way.  Tina had dryly commented that one thing she’d never planned for in the relationship was that Bette would cheat on her with the CAC, and how on earth was she meant to compete with Bette’s job for her attention anyway?

Thoughts of Tina, at home alone and probably asleep by now, didn’t exactly lift Bette’s spirits.  Shaking her head, she couldn’t help wondering just how long the two of them could continue the way they were; never seeing one another during the week and overburdened with working from home at the weekends.  Bette had sometimes wished she’d found a housewife instead of another high-flyer like herself, although those wishes were always rendered hollow the moment she felt Tina’s lips on her own.  Given a choice between someone who kept the house clean and catered to her every need, and the woman who made her feel truly alive every second they were together, Bette would have chosen Tina every single time.

Carlton was building to a crescendo now, and irritability with his manner and his choice of vocabulary pricked at the back of Bette’s neck.  Feeling the late hour sitting heavily on her shoulders and the futility of the argument that Carlton clearly wanted to have right now, her jaw clenched as she bit back the anger that had bubbled to the surface, drowning the sense of panic she’d felt only moments ago.

"Carlton – Carlton!" she held up her hand as though she could physically stop his outburst.  "I do realize that this is a problem," she continued, as the man’s voice dwindled in her ear and she realized, not without a burgeoning sense of pride that he was actually listening to her.

    1. Here’s the deal.. I am totally in awe of this masterpiece and naming my first born after you is not enough. I am giving him/her to you as a present:) I do not know what else to say except that every word you wrote was titilating. I want to quote my favorite part but then I would have to cut and paste the whole thing. I mean, I am floored, thudded, splayed, spooned..OMG… I knew I was in for a great ride with ” Is that an offer?”.. Gaymo, I know that I have professed my love for you many times last night, but hot damn, I love you! (Nek, be quiet:)). I cannot stop rambling. I hate IC just because she is not you! Give me some more please..Oh, and ” would you like to be?” was too much for my TiBette loving heart to handle… Yes, I would like to be.. OMG.. I need to go before this comment box kicks me out for sheer stupidity!

    2. so hot! loved every word. your writing is fantastic. i especially loved in the summary, “not for the faint hearted. or those who like organized desks.” lmao. i’m guilty of the last part, which is probably why i don’t do office visits, however, i might bite the bullet! *wink* thanks for writing. :)

    3. Shit. I said I wasn’t ever, ever, ever writing again after your last story. Wasn’t that enough? Now you write this and force me to pledge my undying love to you for your erotic literary skills?

*sigh* Fine. If you insist. :D

Delicious story. And definitely easier on the heart than the last one. I completely look forward to another story by you. 5 stars!!!

    4. I’ve never read any of your stories before, but something about this one caught my attention. Can’t say I was disappointed at all. It actually reminds me of something I did years ago, but it was still light outside. ALL doors were locked though (wearing huge grin)! Great chapter…keep writing.
