GLAAD announced the nominees for the 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, recognizing powerful and important media stories from 2013 – an historic year for LGBT equality.

Nominated in the Outstanding Film – Wide Release category are the Oscar-nominated Philomena, Blue Is the Warmest Color, Dallas Buyers Club, Kill Your Darlings, and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (with the relationship between gay characters Alec and Magnus which will continue in the sequel).
The Outstanding Comedy Series category includes Glee, Modern Family, and first-time nominees Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Orange is the New Black, and Please Like Me.
The nominees for Outstanding Drama Series, Pretty Little Liars, Shameless, Grey’s Anatomy, The Fosters, and Orphan Black, represent a diverse range of characters and storylines.
In the Outstanding Music Artist category, Lady Gaga is nominated alongside Elton John, Tegan and Sara, Vampire Weekend, and Goldfrapp. Goldfrapp released a powerful music video for “Annabel” about a child escaping to the woods to explore their gender, while Tegan and Sara’s critically acclaimed Heartthrob was the duo’s best-selling album to date.

The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD’s work to amplify stories from the LGBT community and issues that build support for equality.
