As L8 Convention is getting closer, seven weeks away to be precise, I would like to make you aware of a few things before you get yourself ready. Let’s talk about the weather first. The convention is going to take place in Brighton this time, which is well known for having a substantial LGBT community, supported by shops, bars, night-clubs and organizations. Brighton is often referred to as “the gay capital of Britain”.
Brighton is located by the sea with beautiful scenery and in March the temperature usually is about 40°-48°F (5°-8°C) …not too bad. It obviously falls in the range of the coldest winter months but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be freezing and unbearable. Because it is a seaside town, the temperature won’t go below 30° but it might rain, so dress up accordingly.
The guest list has changed since I posted the L8 announcement but it’s still nothing short of spectacular. Unfortunately, Jennifer Beals, who was originally announced as one of the guests, was forced to cancel her attendance due to the commitments for her new upcoming show “The Chicago Code”. Her plate is currently full but there’s still hope that she will make it to another convention in the future.
As of now we will have Erin Daniels, who played the lovely and adorkable Dana; Laurel Holloman, who played the beloved Tina, one-half of the most popular couple in TV history, also known as “TiBette”; Janina Gavankar, who played the exotic and hilarious Papi who competed with Shane for the status of Lothario on Alice’s chart; Lauren Lee Smith, who played the infamous soup-chef, Lara; Kate French, who played Niki Stevens and since it’s her first convention appearance, she is so-called “convention virgin”; just like her fellow cast member, Clementine Ford, who played Molly, a “straight” woman who stole Shane’s heart in Season 5.
And as if this line-up was not enough, Sean Harry also invited Heather Peace, who played a Detective-Sergeant Sam Murray on the UK version of “The L Word”, called “Lip Service.” Heather is an actress and a musician so there’s some hope that the fans will hear her play, especially the ones coming from outside of UK and who haven’t had an opportunity to attend any of Heather’s gigs. By the way, “Lip Service” was picked up for its second season so the fans of the show might get an answer to the question: “Whom will Cat choose, Sam or Frankie?” Check additional information on “Lip Service” and watch the complete first season here www.lipservicefans.com.
Furthermore, Tracy Ryerson and her partner Stamie Karakasidis from the reality series, “The Real L Word”, are apparently vacating in England at this time and were also invited to attend the L8 Convention. Even if you haven’t seen “The Real L Word” (which also got picked up for the second season by Showtime), and “Lip Service”, the fans will have a great opportunity to meet cast members from different lesbian series and to chat about gay and lesbian representation on TV.
Last but not least, L8 Convention has an exciting program filled with photo shootings, autograph sessions, Q&A’s and late night parties. I’ve meet most of the guests and I’m pretty sure that some of them will be more than willing to attend those parties and hang out with fans.
