At 3:30 the arrivals began. Once again I found myself at the end of the line, which is really good spot. It put me far away from all the photographers who sometimes look like vultures ready to attack their prey. Where I stood, I could take photos and conduct some interviews. In addition, I was positioned near the GLAAD’s very own Twitter person and pretty much all the guests stopped to pose for the GLAAD Twitter, which gave me an opportunity to take photos of as many celebrities as I wished.
INTERVIEWS
The interviews this year were pretty short and I didn’t have a chance to talk to many celebrities but I tried to interview at least people from the shows I watch or people who had some connection to “The L Word”.
I’m a big fan of “Modern Family” and I was really looking forward to meeting some of the cast. Julie Bowen (Claire) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell) came to our line-up later and didn’t have time to do interviews but I was able to talk to Ariel Winter (Alex).
B&TF: “The Modern Family” is a really funny show. Alex is always so serious so how do you approach your character?
AW: I’m sort of that way with my school too. I’m very focused on school because it is very important to me. So Alex is pretty much me, except that I’m a little bit more girly.
B&TF: In season one you had a few scenes with Sofia Vergara who is hilarious. How hard was it to keep a straight face and not laugh out loud?
AW: It was really hard to sit there with a straight face and act with somebody as funny as her. We have the most hilarious cast. I’m so glad every day to be working with them. I love them so much.
B&TF: Is anyone doing pranks on the set?
AW: Me, Nolan and Rico are big pranksters. We do pranks on our teachers, classmates, everybody. We love pranks.
B&TF: Congratulations on being picked up for the new season.

My next guest was Sarah Drew who plays Dr. April Kepner on “Grey’s Anatomy”. I have a confession to make. I watched the first five seasons with a lot of interest but slowly that interest died. I still watch occasionally but Sarah Drew played an unfamiliar character so I had to do some digging before asking her a few questions.
B&TF: Your character was recurring at first in season six and then she became a regular. What makes your character so special for such a transition?
SD: I think she’s just interesting. She’s a little different. She’s interesting and fun to watch. She creates division. You know, there are a lot of people who find her really annoying but it gets people talking. You know, I went on just to do two episodes and was gone and they brought me back, and then they continued to develop my character. I think what’s really, really interesting about her now is that she’s a virgin, a 28-years old virgin and there are not very many of those on TV. I think it’s an interesting story to tell and I think people continued to like the character because a lot of them found her pretty relatable.
B&TF: You play a doctor, a role that even more seasonal actors might have problems with so much medical jargon to learn and long set hours. How did you approach your character in this regard?
SD: Actually, my mother is a scientist. She was my biology and AP biology teacher so there’s part of my brain that’s really fascinated with all the intricacies of a medical jargon. I found it to be really fun, learn how to suture. Sometimes I forget my lines while I’m trying to do that but that’s what made it really interesting to me.
B&TF: What’s in your character’s future?
SD: A big thing happens to her in the season finale that will change the future for her. You got to watch. You got to wait and see.
B&TF: I definitely will.
