Lost Girl Column 1.1

Welcome to the first edition of the new weekly Lost Girl column. This week will be a little meet and greet so we can get to know one another and the show. Let me start by introducing myself, I am Somewhataddicted and some of you may be familiar with my fanfiction. I had never been as passionate about a show until I happened upon it near the end of it’s first season. I instantly fell in love with the show and the characters and quickly scrounged to find everything I had missed, setting me on my path to becoming a fangirl. I am excited to take on this new endeavor with LesFan as they expand into more fandoms. My hope is that this will expose more people to Lost Girl for the first time, as well as entertain current fans of the show.

If you are not familiar with it, let me bring you up to speed. Lost Girl is a supernatural drama that centers on the main character of Bo Dennis, played by the beautiful Anna Silk. Bo was raised in a normal human world until she accidentally kills her high school boyfriend in a tragic coming of age accident. She begins a life on the run, believing herself to be a monster until she finds herself in the middle of a new world involving a species called the Fae that have fed on humans in one form or another for thousands of years and consist of all things folklore.

Bo is captured by Dyson, a wolf shifter and Hale, a siren, after killing a human in an attempt to save a stranger, her soon to be human best friend, Kenzi. She soon learns that the Fae are divided into a Light and a Dark side and that humans are not just food, but also slaves to them. Dr. Lauren Lewis, the insatiably curious human doctor who also happens to be a slave to the Light Fae, finally reveals that Bo is a succubus who feeds on the sexual energy, or “chi”. After surviving a life or death test where she is forced to choose a side, Bo chooses humans (unaligned) determined to live life on her terms, which immediately makes her many enemies. Friendships and alliances are formed as Bo learns to deal with prophecies, controlling her abilities, exploring relationships and fighting threat after threat against her life and those that she has come to care about.

Other characters include Trick, a barkeep with a secret, Vex, a Mesmer that can control other people’s movements, Evony, the leader of the Dark Fae, Tamsin, a Valkyrie with questionable motives, as well as a host of other amazing characters and guest stars over the seasons including Linda Hamilton, Ali Liebert and George Takei.

Lost Girl is currently airing the last few episodes of season 4 on SyFy in the U.S. and is about to begin filming their fifth season to air later this fall on Showcase in Canada. The first three seasons are available on DVD and on Netflix. The show received a warm reception from the start and has rapidly gained fans with each season. There is a passionate international fan base and quite possibly more ships than the U.S. Navy, giving everyone someone to either root for, or against.

The chemistry of the cast is one of the most wonderful things about the show with such talented people as Ksenia Solo, Zoie Palmer, Kris Holden-Ried, Rick Howland and many more that is evident on screen and off. Fans also enjoy that the cast is so interactive and appreciative of them on Twitter and at cons. Even Emily Andras, who was the showrunner for several seasons, takes part the delicious torture of teasing us with what’s to come. The show is fun, quirky, unique and daring. If nothing else, the show never fails to deliver sex, action, sex and promotes equality. Did I mention sex? What else are you waiting for? Check it out! I will be back with more next week.
