The advertisements for ONE BIG HAPPY, a new sitcom premiering tomorrow night (March 17) on NBC, want to make two points very clear: there is a lesbian in the show, and it’s produced by Ellen Degeneres. Sold! The show is about a lesbian who decides to have a baby with her straight, male best friend. He, of course … we’ve seen this plot before… meets the (straight, female) love of his life.

The promos actually don’t look that impressive. Check this trailer:

“The lesbian” is certainly cute enough – and they work hard not to fall into stereotypes. Maybe too hard because I’m not sure I’m buying Elisha Cuthbert as a lesbian. The trailers also have Nick Zanno and Kelly Brook over-delivering lines, almost screaming, and there is that god-awful laugh track.

Still… it’s Ellen, and there’s a lesbian. The reality is we don’t have much to get picky about on TV, so I’ll definitely check it out.
