Ok, now that we’re all pumped up for the RETURN OF THE L WORD (!!!), let’s have a QUICK recap of where we left our women. We’ll be preparing a detailed synopsis soon, so here is a quickie for now (you’re welcome).
Let’s revisit Season 6 that led us to 8 years of a barren landscape of lesbian television.
#1 They thankfully killed off Jenny. She can’t return… can I get another amen?!…unless they do some crazy “dream sequence” kind of excuse. Far fetched, right? We can rest easy that Jenny is history? Yes? PLEASE?
The problem with the MURDER of Jenny was/is that someone did it. Someone who was on the premises at the going away party for Bette and Tina. So… “who did it” still hangs in the air 8 years later.
Bette and Tina – the party was for them. After too many seasons of having been split up and with other partners, they were back together and getting ready to move to New York where they were going to get some distance from LA and return to marital bliss. However, Jenny was threatening to tell Tina that Bette had cheated. Bette told Jenny to back off, making her suspect #1.
Tina had been working on the film Lez Girls, an adaptation of Jenny’s novel. This was the source of everything that went wrong in Season 6, culminating in Jenny accusing Tina of stealing the negatives (she didn’t). In the end, Tina got a job offer in New York, and getting away from Jenny and LA, and getting a fresh start looked best for her and Bette. Would she have done it when she was already moving on? Not likely.
Kit (Pam Grier) … our beloved Kit. Jenny tried to convince Kit that Bette cheated on Tina with Kelly (Elizabeth Berkley). Kit also told Jenny to back off (but anyone who watched Alpha Bette would certainly think Bette did it ahead of Kit).
Alice (Leisha Hailey) and Tasha were set to fade into the sunset together, after Tasha chose Alice over Jamie (smart move). Then Jenny was found dead in Bette and Tina’s pool. Lots of speculation was that Alice did it. There was supposed to be a spinoff of TLW that never happened. It was based on Alice in prison for the murder of Jenny. The spinoff didn’t happen, so the writers have a clean slate with Alice’s story.
Shane (Kate Moennig) was in a relationship with Jenny. To me, this makes her murder suspect #1. She was also fooling around with Niki, so maybe Niki (Kate French) did it? Shane had found a letter from Molly (Clementine Ford) that Jenny hid from Shane. With it were the missing negatives from Lez Girls film that Tina was directing but had been accused of stealing. Bottom line: Jenny was no good. Everyone wanted to kill – especially the audience.
Helena (Rachel Shelley) and Dylan (Alexandra Hedison – now the wife of Jodie Foster). Helena broke up with Dylan, fearing she was after her for her money. Silly Helena.
Max (Daniela Sea) ended the show pregnant and alone. Who wrote this stuff?
Carmen (Sarah Shahi) hasn’t been seen or heard from since the end of Season 3 when she was Shaned. Shane left her at the altar. Fool. She was as sweet as she was gorgeous.
Dana was foolish, sadly, infuriatingly killed off in Season 3. She was one of the most loved characters on TLW.
