I consider myself very fortunate and somewhat spoiled when it comes to “The L Word” related events. In the last few years I went to many of them as a member of the press and had access to Red Carpets, interviews, and even occasionally “green rooms”. I’m not saying this to brag but to point out that quite often I viewed those events as my job and I would forget to enjoy myself as any fan would do.
On Wednesday, for the first time I had a chance to go to an event just as a fan of rock music and fan of “The L Word”, without thinking about taking fabulous photos or preparing some exciting interview questions. It was all about having fun and enjoying the music. “Uh Huh Her”, Leisha Hailey’s band, is on the U.S. tour and I didn’t even have to travel anywhere this time to the event because they were playing just a few blocks away from me.
As you might know, Uh Huh Her was formed in 2007 and they released their first EP in July 2007, followed by the debut album “Common Reaction”. On March 15, 2011, the duo released their second EP titled “Black and Blue” and Leisha stated in the latest interview that their second album “Nocturnes” will be released in the spring, as well. To promote their 6-song EP, “Uh Huh Her” announced their spring 2011 headlining tour that began on March 13 in Tucson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HLBAL1v7Kk
I arrived early enough to be in the middle of the line that was already forming at the club. Mostly there were young female crowd, a few guys, and just a handful of older women. The club opened at 9 and everyone headed to the bar. I got a huge glass of sparkling water and lime (Jennifer Beals said that it’s hydrating and called lime a “happy citrus”) and took my spot by the stage.
It’s just soda with “happy citrus”, i swear
The concert was opened by “Diamonds Under Fire” who is traveling with “Uh Huh Her” on this tour and they were quite good and set a very exciting mood for the rest of the evening. Finally, around 11 pm Leisha and Cam came on stage with the rest of their band and the Urban Lounge became even more energized and excited.
Leisha was full of energy. She was jumping, twirling, and interacting with the audience while playing and singing. She was completely in her element that night, doing what she loves to do.
They performed several songs from both of their albums and everyone in the audience, including me, enjoyed every single moment. In between the songs Cam entertained us with a few stories that happened to them on the road and they seemed to have a lot of fun, especially judging by their tweet the following morning.
It was wonderful just to relax and enjoy the music. When I got home, my ears were ringing, my feet were hurting and I had to wake up in about five hours to go to work but none of that lessened the excitement of the evening.
The concert also made me a little bit nostalgic because Leisha’s antics reminded me of a flashback episode in season 1, in which Alice tells her coming out story when she was in the band in college.
Hmm, I bet “The L Word” marathon will fix this nostalgic moment of weakness.
PS. I recorded one full song and a few clips but the sound for some reason is awful. I still wanted to post them so everyone can see just how entertaining their performance was, so I apologize if your ears will began ringing too…at least, you can always mute it.

I saw them a couple weeks ago at SXSW and they were amazing! I even met both of them after the show. Two magnificent ladies :P
i like the story
