    Simple Joys

I cross the threshold of our living room and there you are, leaning against the wall, your hands resting loosely in your pockets, watching the setting sun. I cannot help but stop to admire you. As far as I’m concerned, the most perfect thing this evening, is you. Not the tenderly made cups of tea in my hand, not the wondrous orange orb that colours the sky, not even the soft serenading of Etta James in the background. You. Just you. In your t-shirt and shorts, standing in our living room. It’s amazing how even after all this time, you can still be so arresting to me without even trying.

You turn to look at me and I’m brought out of my reverie as our eyes meet. Your face lights up with a warm smile as you beckon me with a tilt of your head. As you do, the ebbing rays of sunlight that make their way into our home, catch some of the dark tresses which fall over your ear, adding to your allure. I am spellbound, but I manage to walk the short distance between us and hand you your cup of tea.

You take it out of my hand with both of yours and bring it up to your nose to breathe in the aroma. Another one of your sweet smiles graces your face as you realize I’ve made your favourite; spiced milk tea. You turn your attention to me and place one hand at the back of my head to stroke my hair gently as you whisper the words thank you before taking your first sip. You then turn towards the sun again as your hand drops to rest across my waist and you lean slightly into me. I, on the other hand, can’t take my eyes off you.

The scent of your shampoo is what strikes me the most now. It’s subtle, yet completely intoxicating to me. The hint of coconut smells delicious, and I am drawn towards your crowning glory despite myself. I bury my nose in your hair to take in more of that pleasant bouquet. You smirk and playfully nudge me away as you tell me I’m missing the sunset. I don’t care about the sunset right now, but I don’t tell you that. I place a little kiss on your temple, then watch the sunset with you as we finish our tea.
