    Why Can’t I? – (Chapter: Chapter Seven)

It was late Sunday night and Ashley was on the road driving. Her mom had just disappeared for what Ashley would assume days, and the emptiness that was her house was just too overwhelming. She thought about calling Summer and inviting her over, but that didn’t feel right. She thought about calling Spencer, and she almost did, but she knew she shouldn’t. In fact, she knew that she shouldn’t even spend time with Spencer until everything with her and Summer ended.

Ashley pulled into the driveway and cut the engine. She sat staring at her hands for what seemed like hours contemplating if this was really the best thing to do. The two voices inside her head battled it out trying to decide who should feel the inevitable pain. Why am I even doing this? I’m happy how it is…no, no you’re not…you just feel safe. Things with Summer come easy, you don’t have to read in to one another. But isn’t that something you find with someone you love? Yes it is you idiot, because you do love. You love her so much you need to stop playing with her feelings right now. You’re not in love with her; she’s just that close to you. But she’s been with me forever…and not just as a girlfriend…she’s been my best friend since I was little…I can’t lose that…well if she loves you as much as she says she does, losing her wont even be an issue.

After Ashley was sick of hearing the two voices debate what she should do, she shook her head a little to rid herself of the unwanted noise. She pulled her keys out of the ignition and stepped out into the cool night. As she approached the door she hesitated a little, but pushed herself forward anyways all the way to the door. She knocked lightly three times, hoping that maybe no one would her it, and she could just turn away with a clear conscience in the fact that she at least tried and no one was home. The door opened to reveal a saddened blonde whose face immediately lit up when she saw Ashley.

“Hey baby.” Summer said and Ashley could tell from her voice and reddened eyes that she had just been crying.

    1. wow man. that was very difficult for me to read. cut me deep. shreik, cut me real deep…..it was good though, just a little close to home. how hard for both of them.

    2. I’m glad you didn’t have Ashley shy away from the confrontation because of Summer’s horrible interactions with her knob of a father. If anything, her waiting to confront would have made things a hell of a lot worse. Poor Summer. Poor Ash. That’s life…you move on. :)

    3. Poor Summer, that hurts yo! But hey, a girl’s gotta do what’s best for her. If Summer loved Ash that much, then she’d respect her enough to let her go. Awesome chapter my love!!

    4. so i have been waiting about two hours to read this, which was just plain torture. i had an important phone call..so yea. but definetly worth the wait. :]

    5. can’t wait to read more. I love this story. Yeah, its harsh to break up with your gf after something like that but at least she was honest with her. I have a lot of pride so I personally would want the truth from my gf asap. Ashley’s emotions are very real and i understand how she could love someone and feel safe with and not be in love. I so understand. pms This story is very original.

    6. yo! I’ve read this story from the start, just been a lazy arse with leaving comments! my apologies! I think your story’s ace and I hope you continue it! :-D

    13. so very glad that you stuck with it. on top of what others have said, i like how you show ashley’s doubt at the end…hoping spencer will be all she feels she is. it’s always scary to break up with someone. it’s so much easier to be a chicken and settle for less. bravo.
