    Ashley and Spencer catch up.

    I heard noise coming towards the door. A blonde woman answered the door, she was holding a toddler that couldn’t be any older than three, “Can I help you?”

     

    I knew who it was the moment that I spotted the crystal blue eyes and heard her sweet voice. I gave a small wave with my left hand, “Hey, Spence.”

     

    She stood there in shock. There wasn’t a word spoken from her after I spoke. Her eyes scanned me up and down as if she was making sure that I was still in tact from the last time she saw me. The toddler in her arms started to cry. I heard her whisper to him, “Shh…its okay. It’s only Ashley.” She looked at me, “I’m sorry. It’s just…it’s been so long Ash. Please come in. I need to put Gabriel down for his nap.”

     

    I walked in. I was a little confused. Was Gabriel Spencer’s? I tried not to ask but finally my curiosity got the best of me, “He’s cute. Is he yours?”

     

    Spencer smiled and laughed a little, “Uh…no. He’s Glen’s. I’m just babysitting today while everyone else handles the hard stuff.”

     

    “Yeah, that’s kind of why I’m here. I got a phone call from your dad’s lawyer. Something about wanting me here for the reading of the will?”

     

    “Yeah, dad had it in his will. None of us knew how to get a hold of you so we let him handle it.”

     

    I looked at her, she looked like she hadn’t slept in days, “Well, you’ve told me about the basics. Now, how are you handling all of this?”

     

    She walked into the living room to the play pin and laid Gabriel down, “Honestly,” she turned and I could see the tears in her eyes, “I’m still trying to figure that out.”

     

    I walked up beside her and put my right hand on her left shoulder, offering her some small amount of comfort, “I’m so sorry Spencer.”

     

    Without a word, she quickly turned and lost control. She wrapped her arms around me and hugged me tightly, sobbing into my shoulder. I held her tightly as if she was going to fall away. I wanted to cry. Seeing her like this hurt me.
