That Saturday night, two days later, I found myself sitting across from Aiden at some bar I’d looked up online. I seemed to have made a good choice, since it was buzzing with other people who appeared to be our age.
“So I’ve reviewed all of the material and everything should go smoothly. I’m going to contact his lawyer to see if he’ll be willing to try to settle outside court,” I said.
“Sweet,” he replied nonchalantly.
“Yeah. It was a total breach of contract on his part; there’s no way that-“
“Spence, I’m sure you’re gonna be kickass on this case, but can we not talk about anything work-related right now? It’s a Saturday night. Let go!” he requested. I sighed and took a sip of my Long Island iced tea.
“Yeah, alright.” The truth was, I didn’t really have anything else besides work to talk about.
“So, are you seeing anyone?”
“Um… no, I’m not. Not right now, anyway,” I replied. “How about you?”
“Sort of.”
“Sort of?”
“Yeah, well we kinda left things open when I found out I was going to be in New York for awhile, but hopefully when I get back we can try again.”
“What’s her name?” I asked.
“Michelle. She’s amazing. She’s still in med school, though… she wants to be a doctor.”
“Cool, how did you guys meet?”
“Oh, through uh… through a mutual friend,” he said. “But I wanna hear more about New York City! You must have some crazy stories to tell.”
“Not… not really. To tell you the truth, I don’t really go out much,” I admitted. “I don’t really go out at all, actually.” He nodded, as if he’d known that all along. Aiden could be pretty perceptive at times.
“Why not?”
“I don’t know. I just… don’t, I guess.” He nodded again, and then drank some more of his beer. He looked as though he had something to say, so I waited for him to speak. After a few moments of silence, I started to say something instead but he interrupted me.
“You could always call her, you know,” he said.
“Call who?”
“Ashley,” he said simply. I froze. It had been some time since I’d heard her name before. Indescribable emotions poured through me, all blending into one: anger.

okay okay okay okay…so spencer and ashley broke up because of the schools? MAN! I told my mom going to school does things to people…she should really believe me. lolAnyways. PMS, like now, please, gotta be polite. lol PMSP. lol
