The Odyssey of Me – (Chapter: Spencer Carlin: The great Pretender?)

Spencer’s P.O.V. leading up to present time

Ash, and I sat in silence the whole way back to my house; not a word ‘bout our kiss, nor ‘bout her mom ruinin’ our wonderful moment. We’re not mad at each other, just not in the mood for talkin’ after what happened. When we got home, Ash got my chair out, helped me in it, and made sure I got in the house okay. Then, she left without either of us sayin’ a word.

Usually, Ash stays ‘round for awhile to talk to me, and the family. Sometimes, she even stays for dinner. Not today, she didn’t even say ‘Bye Mr. and Mrs. C!’, and she never leaves without sayin’ that, it’s cute, the way her face lights up when she says it. She kinda wishes they were her parents too, and after today I can see why she wants a different mom. Mom and Dad were standin’ right there too. So they know somethin’s up.

    Present Time

“Did you and Ashley have a fight?” Spencer’s father, Arthur asks him as both he and Spencer’s mother, Paula have concerned looks on their faces.

“No, just a rough day.” Spencer answers sadly while looking down.

Spencer, opts not to bother switching to his walker, like he normally does to get around the house, instead he wheels over to his spot at the dinner table, (the center, facing the wall) carelessly yanks the chair from its place at the table and parking his wheelchair there, and rests his head downward on his crossed arms.  His parents follow, taking two seats directly across from him.

    “What happened, Spence?” Paula asks.

“Kids givin’ ya a hard time ‘bout your disability?” Arthur furthers the effort to find out why Spencer’s depressed.

Spencer lifts his head, but only nods in response.

“There’re idiots everywhere, I guess.” Paula says wishing she was surprised.

“’Fraid so sweetie.” Arthur answers also disappointed in the ignorance of those people.

“I have to deal with this shit all the time, but dealin’ with the hurt friends feel for me when they first experience it…that kills me.” Spencer states with his voice beginning to quiver as if he’s about to cry, but he fights off the urge

“So, someone made fun of you, and it upset Ashley?” Paula asks just trying to clarify that is what Spencer meant.

    1. I’m really sorry for not posting a comment before….I just wanted to say I thought Spencer handled himself well with Madison and thoses 2 assholes there so stupid I think assholes is a much better name for them lol. I think ppl like that need a good slap and then some!! I think the way Spencer feels is totally understandable and I’m glad Ashley was so good to make him feel better shame Christine came back tho. I would love to see Spencer and Ashley together in the end but I’m sure the road will not be a smooth one and I for one don’t mind that. Glen being gay could be fun and as long as Madison gets what’s coming to her I’m down with it lol. Loved this update I’m really looking forward to the next one pms
