The Odyssey of Me – (Chapter: Spencer Carlin: The great Pretender?)

Flashback to all the bad things Christine said about him and the deep sadness etched allover   Ashley’s face.

    First, he remembers her saying:

“Christ, Ashley! When ya said ya made friends with this…this…freak…It was nice that ya were takin’ an interest in charity work…I never thought you’d be stupid enough to kiss the thing!”

The flashback ends there because it hurts him too much too remember the awful way Christine made Ashley feel.

He’s almost in tears as he continues talking to his parents.

“Christine, doesn’t deserve to have a daughter like Ashley…She treats her like shit! I had to talk Ashley outta runnin’ across the room, and beatin’ the hell out of her more than once…At first I thought Christine was drunk, but then Ashley explained that she doesn’t need to drink to be a belligerent bitch she just is. It was awful!”

    Spencer’s P.O.V.

Then Dad did somethin’ that reminded me he’s so great, he asked how old she is. I know that doesn’t mean anythin’ to you, but to me it means a lot. It means the Social Worker in him is at work. He’s always willin’ to do what he can for anybody in need; especially younger people.”

She’s ‘bout two months younger than me. I answered.

Then he asked ‘bout her dad.

All I know is…he’s in some rock band…they use to be big in the ‘80’s, and he’s on the road right now.

Both parents look at their son intently, showing genuine interest.

Every time I ask Ash more what he’s like, she either freezes up, or changes the subject…The funny thing is; whenever that happens she always hums this tune…

    Spencer hums Hold On.

“What’s Ashley’s last name, again?” My dad asked me excitedly.

Davies. I answered not knowin’ why he had become excited all the sudden.

    Arthur’s eye’s light up.

“Wait here I’ll be right back!” He instructed my Mom and me before quickly leavin’ the room.

I asked Mom if she knew what he was up to, but she just shrugged her shoulders. When Dad returned he had an old tape player, and a tape. He plugged the player in, and inserted the tape. My Mom and I were still oblivious to why Dad what dad was doin’, but when the tape began to play I knew. It was the song Ashley’s lips are always singin’.

    1. I’m really sorry for not posting a comment before….I just wanted to say I thought Spencer handled himself well with Madison and thoses 2 assholes there so stupid I think assholes is a much better name for them lol. I think ppl like that need a good slap and then some!! I think the way Spencer feels is totally understandable and I’m glad Ashley was so good to make him feel better shame Christine came back tho. I would love to see Spencer and Ashley together in the end but I’m sure the road will not be a smooth one and I for one don’t mind that. Glen being gay could be fun and as long as Madison gets what’s coming to her I’m down with it lol. Loved this update I’m really looking forward to the next one pms
