Gone ashtray XV
Short one, tell me what you think of it.
Jai envie daller en Europe je ny trouverai plus quun cimetire, je le sais je me prosternerai sur son sol, couvrirai ses pierres de baisers et de larmes, bien que mon c”ur soit convaincu que cest une ncropole et rien de plus .
Thats how Ivan Karamazov describes Europe. Old Europe as some pretty smart people would put it. Her sentence was followed by laughter in the room.
A continent which has lost its dynamism, its power, its glory. She paused. She liked the feeling of power, the theatrical aspect of a lecture. All those students hanging on her every word.
But still, it hasnt disappeared. Its a cemetery because of its history. You cant study literature by reading only modern American literature, though there are some pretty interesting movements. You have, if at all, to read Shakespeare, Proust, Goethe, Tolsto and all the others great artists. You might think its clich (and it that case I suggest you leave this room) but its not : they have created the subject youre studying.
Sasha bent over towards Jenny and whispered : See thats the major traumatism of you Americans : you dont have any real past, thats why youre trying so bad to mark the century, you want to make history.
Jenny smiled, Sasha was once again rattling on with her anti-Bush positions and criticising Americans. But she knew it was a game. Sasha was playing with the wide spread prejudice that all Europeans hate America. She decided to play her game.
Shall I remind you that you were the ones who initially killed the native Americans she retorted.
Sasha smiled : No, only the mentally defective Europeans we didnt want on our continent any more.
Jenny scoffed, not being able to suppress her giggle : Youre so she started, searching for a word sounding more literary than stupid
Smart ? Or rather breathtakingly intelligent ? Sasha filled in for her, sending her into another fit of laughter.
Jenny noticed a cute girl sitting on her right, five rows away, with spiky short dark hair and nose piercing, looking at her.
Better not, shes very loud in bed she heard Sasha whisper.
You already had her ? Jenny wondered and Sasha nodded.
And what about this one over there ? she asked, slightly nodding in the direction of another girl.
She spent the whole night claiming she was straight, even when she was moaning like mad Sasha answered, pity in her voice.
Dont tell me youve slept with every single woman here ! Jenny exclaimed, forgetting about the surroundings. Several of their neighbours turned their heads and quizzically stared at her. She cursed inwardly and slided further down in her seat, trying to disappear.
Sasha grinned, silently answering her question. Then she added, as an afterthought : Actually no, she and she pointed the lecturer is still resisting my legendary charm, dont ask me how thats possible
Jenny looked at the woman talking. She was the teacher Sasha had told her about and advised her to meet. She was tall, slim, with quite short hair, wearing bohemian clothes. She must be about 45. She wasnt exactly beautiful, nor *****, but there was something about the way she acted, seductive movements, her throaty, sensual voice and her age seemed to give her a self assurance Jenny admired. She hadnt talked to her yet but she was already intimidated.
Oh my God ! Dana ! Im so happy for you ! I watched the game, you played like a goddess ! Its amazing you beat her ! I wish I could be there and help you relax Lara said, with a ***** voice, hearing Dana chuckle on the other end of the line.
I miss you too Dana finally said and hung up.
Youd better lay down and try to sleep, you have another game tomorrow Kate said from behind.
Dana sighed Youre right and turned round. Kate hold out her hand and Dana saw another pill, just like the one she had taken the day before. She looked at Kate with wonder in her eyes.
It seems it has helped you, so maybe you should take another one, just in case, for tomorrow.
Dana shook her head no, and turned to the bed, ignoring Kates disapproving look.
Theyre all taking stuff like this Dana, all of them, and theyre as good as you. You dont stand any chance if you dont play their game ! I thought you wanted to win.
Dana turned : Ill win, but without this and she motioned for Kate to leave.
She went to bed, not able to find sleep. Her mind kept on thinking of what had happened today. She had woken up extraordinarily fresh, feeling strong and powerful. She hadnt felt tired during the game, no exhaustion after it. She knew that there was more to it than Kate had told her, a normal medicine would have helped her to sleep, but not made her feel so good on the following day. She knew it was dangerous, thats why she had refused it. Besides, she felt slightly ashamed of he victory because of it and hearing Lara congratulate her had made it worse.
She tried to concentrate on the forthcoming game. She was going to win it, without the help of illegal drugs. She was good, fit, and she was going to show the world what sort of tennis she could play.
Hey sleepy head. Bette stirred, opened her eyes but was met by darkness. She sighed, remembering why she couldnt see a thing. She felt a hand slowly stroking her cheek, brushing her hair out of her face and took it in hers, wanting to hold it for ever. But Tina quickly withdraw her hand and got up from where she had sit down on the bed.
I made breakfast, care to join ? she asked, a little bit too harshly.
Bette nodded her head, sunking back into the pillows, cursing herself for what she had just done. She had scared Tina, which was initially not what she had intended on doing. She wanted to make her feel at ease, safe, be able to make her laugh, telling jokes, find some sort of complicity but the defences Tina had built were hard to break.
She sighed once more, feeling helpless.
What are you going to do, as regars to your job at the CAC ? Tina asked when she stepped into the kitchen.

God, thanks for telling me, but you’re actually the tenth person to tell me. I know, but I’ve decided to go on with it. But now I’m wondering if that was a good idea, I might change it everywhere, finally ;-)
MAybe your intent was for them to smoke Trysian. After a few of these drama scenes you have so nicely written, I feel the need to pull out an ashtray myself……….LOL
