“And thats the whole story.” Tina punctuated her thought by placing the final candle on the rose-covered birthday cake.
“Thats not quite the whole story. Thats the PG version of the story. PG as in plenty of gaps,” Alice said, leaning over Tinas shoulder to swipe her finger through the thick white frosting.
“PG as in perfectly good enough for now,” Tina corrected, looking at Alice pointedly while she used a spatula to repair the breach in the cake.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” Alice rolled her eyes and sucked her finger clean of the sugary dollop.
“So youlost your earring?”
“Yes. But as it turned out, it was exactly where it was supposed to be. And then so was I,” Tina smiled, brushing her fingers through her daughters chestnut tresses before kissing the top of her head.
“Aunt Alice told me”
“Jordan. You know what we say about Aunt Alice,” Bette interrupted, tapping her temple as she walked in from the deck.
“Hey, T. Do you think we need more balloons?” Shane asked, winking at Jordan as she pointed over her shoulder.
Tina picked up the cake and followed Shane back into the dining room. “Youre on your own,” she said to Bette.
“On my own with what?”
“Jordo here asked her Mom about when you two first met,” Alice said.
“You already know that story.”
“Well, Aunt Alice says” Jordan started.
“Great. Its the National Enquirer version,” Bette said drolly. “Please tell me Michael Jackson wasnt there.”
“Hey, Im trying to fill in a few blanks for the kid, thats all,” Alice said.
“Right. Because Tina and I have been willfully deceiving her all of these years.”
“No, not exactly. But as an eyewitness, I feel that I can offer some insightful color commentary.”
“Tina,” Bette called, putting her hands on her hips.
“Hang on, Babe. Were tying up balloons,” Tina replied.
“And you pick right now to have this conversation? When were expecting 20 9-year-olds for a birthday party?” Bette asked Alice.
“What? Like theres a bad time for honesty?” Alice smirked.
“How does Dana put up with you? Youre still every bit as”
“Ahem,” Alice said, pointing to her niece. “Ixnay in front of the idkay”
Bette narrowed her eyes at Alice before turning her attention to her child. “Whatever your Mom told you is the truth. All of this happened a long, long time ago, and every now and then your Aunt Alice gets confused and has a hard time remembering things.”
“So, if Mom told the truth, is Aunt Alicelying?” Jordan asked, her eyes wide.
“Not lying. Justnot quite remembering right,” Bette clarified.
“Great. Now she thinks Im having senior moments at 42,” Alice muttered. “And Im supposed to be the cool aunt.”
“No. Shane is the cool aunt. Youre the overindulgent trouble-making aunt.”
“How about Dana?”
“Shes the overindulgent fun-loving aunt.”
“And Kit?”
“The overindulgent confidante aunt.”
“Im sensing a pattern.”
“Yes. Its a pattern that weve been dealing with for nine years,” Bette said.
“What, Shane isnt overindulgent?” Alice pouted.
“Mommy, what does overindulgent mean?” Jordan asked.
“It means your Mommy thinks we spoil you rotten, Jordo,” Alice said, bending down to look Jordan in the eyes. “But youre not spoiled, are you?”
“T,” Bette called again. “Im losing ground.”
“Were moving as fast as we can, Baby,” Tina said.
“Okay. Directional signs are officially posted,” Dana said, walking into the kitchen from the deck. “I followed them back and they all led right here.”
“Always good when the party guests can actually find the party,” Alice said, hugging Dana and nuzzling her neck.
“How do you like being 9?” Dana asked, beaming down at the guest of honor.
“Its pretty cool so far,” Jordan nodded, adding, “Aunt Dana, whats a senior moment?”
“She doesnt miss a thing,” Alice said.
“And youre just figuring this out now?” Bette sighed.
Tina and Shane walked in from the dining room, grinning mischievously.
“Whats so funny?” Alice asked.
“Nothing,” Tina and Shane chorused in voices made high-pitched from helium.
“What makes you think somethings funny?” Shane asked, sounding like Minnie Mouse.
“Yeah. Everythings fine,” Tina said, erupting in cartoon-character giggles.
“Right,” Shane squeaked, laughing along with her.
“This is going to be a long day,” Bette said wearily.
“Mom, what about what Aunt Alice said”
“What Honey? What did she say?” Tina asked, clearing her throat.
“About when you and Mommy met at the gallery. She said that you left your earring there on purpose, so Mommy would find you,” Jordan said, focusing her serious brown eyes first on one mother, then the other. “What if she didnt see it on the floor? What if she didnt know it was yours?”
Bette enveloped her daughter in a huge bear hug, kissing her golden brown cheek. “Baby, I didnt need any earring to find my way to your Mom. Long before I ever met her, my heart already knew that she was the one I was meant to be with.”
“It did?” Jordan asked.
“Yes,” Bette replied, smiling up at Tina. “And thats the truth.”

I love how you tied these stories together..please write again soon – and a Happy New Year!
And the truth is I loved this story. So Bette and Tina had a baby girl in your story before the show, I like the name Jordan. Thanks for the story.
(grinning) ah what a way to end a story. wonderful. MERRY CHRISTMAS (if you happen to celebrate it that is) & HAPPY NEW YEAR. Thanks for your time and for sharing. I’ve enjoyed every bit of it.
Beautiful ending to an exquisitely told story — ok, best wishes for a joyful holiday season — and we will be waiting here eagerly for a new ffc tale in the new year — thanks
Oh dear, poor Cramit’s gone an exploded. Is anyone at all surprised? I’m not. This series was so wonderful my heart nearly burst as well. Every single bit of this story was skillfully, deftly told, and a delight to read. You are an amazingly talented writer. Thanks for taking the time to share your talents with us. Happy holidays!
A sweet and beautiful ending to a lovely story. I’ve enjoyed this story immensely and I also feel that I learn something about writing after I read a chapter.
I look forward to your next inspiring thought. Happy holidays to you and yours.
Youre stories are always so sweet and i think you may be the cause of excessive dentists visits and major cavities. But please, you feed my fanfic addiction. Cant wait til you grace us with a new story. Have a great holiday!!
Such wonderful writing gifts…perfect for the season. Happy Holidays to you and yours FFC.
Thank you for another wonderful story. I will be looking forward to your new story next year. To you FFC and all the readers and writers on this site, Happy Holidays .. Be Safe everyone.
Thank you for the privilege of reading your story. You are one of my favorite authors. Like many of my L-Word sisters who comment, I find myself sad to see your stories end. There is nothing like reading an excellent written story and losing myself in it. What a wonderful gift you possess and are generous enough to share. Thank you once again. Happy Holidays y Feliz Año.
That was an perfect end to a perfect story! I’m looking forward to the New Year and new stories written by you!

I deplore endings to your stories, always feel a sense of sadness. This was wonderful as always. I’ll just have to re-read all of your stories continously until the new year begins. Happy Holidays and thank you for the joy your writing has given to my wife and I.
This has been a wonderful story and I have enjoyed all of your writing from the beginging thank you for takling the time for us…I hope you and your famile have a Merry Christmas & a Healthy & Happy New Year!!! We will anxiously await your next story…
Look. Seriously. Please. I can’t handle your stories. I’m like the Grinch. Your stories are little Whos from Whoville that are expanding my heart in my chest. Anymore, and it will burst like that thing from Alien and then instead of being all happy and mushy, I’ll be all gross and mushy. And when the doctor looks over my medical report, all it will say is: “Couldn’t contain the happiness and giddiness and enjoyment that reading fan fiction from FFC causes. Heart just burst with joy. Poor girl.”
I love your stories more than Burl Ives’ “Holly Jolly Christmas” on Christmas day. You so totally rock. 5 stars doesn’t scratch the surface of what you deserve. :D
So very gorgeous… Thanks so much for writing this wonderful fic. Looking forward to your next series. Happy Holidays!

Fanficchick, just wanted to let you know that I’m suffering from serious withdrawal and can’t wait for your next post. I’m missing you way with words. Thanks for taking the time to write, you’re efforts are most definitely appreciated.
I’ve just read all your chapters in one sitting…can’t believe it’s taken me this long to discover you!! Fantastic…please write again soon.
I am on a FFC marathon but I’m stopping here to comment before I launch myself on Autonomy T. I found myself walking away after each chapter, savoring them, not reading another until I was ready. I didn’t want to rush the experience and each chapter left me content. No cliff hangers, no melodrama, no major angst – just lovely people in gorgeous stories. So I savoured them like a fine bottle of wine, rolled some of your sentences around on my tongue, and like Cramit, will be using them in real life. Plagorism=flattery (i think).
I am off to enjoy Autonomy T, I feel like a stalker but in a good way.
Love, hugs and Kisses
Glad to have had the opportunity to read this one, and the others. Love how this one ends by tying in Jordan. great work!
