    The Roommates – 2nd Dimension: Chapter 49

    Bette took a deep breath and steeled herself. She’d perched herself on the edge of the cliff. Now was the time to make the jump.

     

    The troubled young woman took one step closer to edge: “Damon is not my boyfriend.” 

     

    “What?”, asked Melvin.

     

    “Bette….don’t do this.”, said Damon, his dark eyes pleading with his friend’s sensibilities. He’d been down this road before with his sister and he knew the outlook wasn’t pretty.

     

    Bette gave her friend and confidant one last look. “I have to do this. You don’t deserve this. You’re only trying to help me.”

     

    “Help you what?”, asked Melvin, his eyes dancing back and forth between the two young people at the table.

     

    Bette started evenly at her father. “Help me lie. Daddy, Damon’s just a friend. He’s just pretending to be my boyfriend because I asked him to. I made up that story about fighting over him so you wouldn’t find out the truth.”

     

    Melvin had reached his boiling point. “What truth? What’s going on here, Bette?”

     

    Bette gathered every ounce of courage and fortitude she could muster before taking the final plunge.

     

    “Daddy…I…I…I’m a lesbian. I’m gay. I was never fighting about Damon. I had an altercation with….my ex-girlfriend. She was cheating on me and – – – “, Bette started.

     

    Melvin’s eyes were wide, fury coating his dark-brown pupils. “You’re a what?”

     

    “I’m a lesbian. I’m a lesbian, Daddy.”

     

    * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

     

    Melvin hand up his hand. “Save it. I’m done here. You want to live this life. You want to shun your God and your home, you do it on your own. I’m done with you. You’re not my daughter.”

     

    “Daddy – – – “

     

    “Don’t call me that.”

     

    “Dad, please.”

     

    “Good evening, Elizabeth. And good luck.”, he said.

    Dana Fairbanks and Tina Kennard were the perfect picture of youth and jovialness, their eyes crinkling as they chuckled together, sitting side by side at a table in the food court of the Westside Pavilion. The nature of human experience is to expect only one dimension. And in one dimension, you could see their smiles and the happy tears that leaked from their eyes and assume that these young women lived in a carefree world where shopping for trendy clothes, eating pizza, and gossiping about cute guys were the highlights of their existence.

    4. Well,well, well, loomwho is finally back in the world of fan fic. You’ve been missed morethansatisfied! I’m so happy that you’ve picked up this great story once again. Unfortunately for Bette she has Melvin’s stubborn streak and i don’t think either of them are at a point where they are going to change the others mind. I know Bette was getting annoyed at the way her father was treating Damon but she really needed to think this one through better. i mean she is completely dependent (financially anyway) on Melvin so ticking him off in this manner is going to have some serious repercussions for Ms. Porter. i just hope she doesn’t have to leave school, Tina and all her friends. Thansk for the great chapter.

    6. hmmm… 6 months. You’re almost as lazy as I am. =P I think Bette is doing the right thing. If she wants to do it after everyone’s cooled down, maybe Melvin would choose to ignore it and pretend nothing happened. Bette’s so alike him. Their confrontation must be very violent, but may reach an amazing end. I think Melvin really likes Bette could be as tough as him somehow, hoho. That’s my theory. Fingers crossed for our young girls.

    10. I had read your story before but was just in the reading mode and not commenting. This is a heart breaking story that happens too many times every day. I hope that Bette will begin to understand that we can not always make others believe that it is okay to love another woman. Both Bette and Tina have a lot of work ahead of them but they can overcome together. I hope that you get to post soon.
