    Chapter 48

Bette frowned, wanted so desperately for her father to understand. “I just know. I just do. And I’m in love, Daddy. I have a girlfriend. And I want to spend the rest of my life with her.”

    “You what?”, he barked.

    “I have a girlfriend. I’m in love.”

“How could you know what love is? What has this girl done to you?”, asked Melvin.

Bette shook her head, any hope she had of being understood began to fade away.

“Daddy, no one has done anything to me. She loves me. I love her.”

“Who is this she?”, he asked.

Bette averted her eyes. It was the moment of her truth. Her truth. Not Tina’s. She didn’t want to expose the woman that owned her heart. And so, in a moment steeped with Déjà vu, she uttered, “Her name is Sidney.”

    Chapter 49

Tina pressed the play button and frowned as she heard Damon’s voice. It was unusual for him to leave a message on their dorm phone. And wasn’t he out with Bette? Why would he be leaving a voice message?

‘Tina. It’s Damon. I just wanted to let you know…..Bette’s on her way to San Diego to see her father. She ended up…coming out to him at dinner tonight. Everything just blew up. She didn’t want to call you because she didn’t want you to know. I just thought you should. Hit me up if you need to. My cell number is …’.

Tina sighed and flopped down on Bette’s bed.

Kit: “Bette, Sweetheart…..you can’t make him listen. Daddy doesn’t listen very well. You know how he is. You can’t make him understand anything.”

“Kit, he has to understand. He can’t pull me out of school. He can’t take me away from Tina.”

“Oh boy. Bette, you need to turn around. Let Daddy cool off. Then maybe you can call him in a few days.”

Bette shook her head and wiped her wet cheeks. “I can’t do that. I can’t wait a few days.”

    1. One more thing, your writing is awesome. It has gotten better not that it was not before but it’s a lttle different which has made it even better to read. Please let us know when that novel is finsihed!

    2. What an emotional confrontation between father and daughters. Really liked these lines: “hese two young women had lived their lives as distant sisters; connected only by the man who’d fathered them. And now, in the quiet hush before the dawn of a Porter Family war, these emotionally crippled foot soldiers lacked the skills needed for battle” and “The foot soldiers had acquired skills in the heat of battle. Love and compassion now flowed easily between them.” Ah, to be in control…hope when Bette grows up, she won’t have this problem as her father does. I too think that perhaps now is the time for Bette’s mother to be more of a part of her life. Thanks for another wonderful addition to the Baby Bette and Tiny Tina story!

    3. the manure just keeps hitting the fan…it would be great for melvin to get a heart attack right now and be alone just as kit said…maybe bette should get a job and pay her way through school, but the main thing, she had to talk to tina and ket her know about this, as painful as it could be, they have to deal with this together

    4. Oooohh my GOD just found out that ou had posted again *twice* Brilliant yes I still read your stories, I have 4 authors I go Back and read ove and over Ally, Skip, Beluga And yourself. Yes I was soooo excited when I seen youhas posted. Going to be hard for our girls but I hope they dont start pulling back from each other, Stuff ass hole Melvin, as somebody says she has her aunt and mum, but let her talk to Tina

    5. I swear my heart rate kept increasing during this chapter. If it’s late enough into the semester then Bette can still finish and have the summer to do whatever it takes to stay in school. And like others have said, she has other family members who would probably help out. She just has to not open her mouth for awhile unless her aunt is the only one helping. =/

    6. great stuff!!! I’m gonna have to go back and read about baby Tina and Baby Bette, damn 49 chapters!!!!lmao …anywayz more soon please, find a way to keep Bette in school and don’t let her and T break up…

    7. Bette needs to go to Tina right now. Bette has a support system in Tina, Kit, her aunt, and she could even talk to her mother. But most important, Bette needs Tina right now. This was a very emotional chapter. Very well done.

    8. So glad to see these 2 chapters of my favorite story. Melvin is such a self-rightess prick and stands to lose the love of both daughters forever. I hope that he wakes up before its too late… people that say sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me… haven’t been on the receiving end of such hateful comments. So much passion and emotions in this chapter- can’t wait for Bette to get back to Tina, she needs her now.

    9. So you’ve brought some serious drama in this chapter. Bette has got be destroyed at Melvin’s continued negative reaction. And now that Melvin knows it was Tina all along i’m worried for her future as well; what if Melvin shares this little lifestyle choice w/ Tina’s family in an attempt to break Tina and Bette apart….uh oh! So how is Bette going to stay in school? I really felt Melvin’s anger and hatred towards Bette (and Kit for that matter) in this chapter. Great writing job, well done!

    10. Wow, MTS, that’s some return. Welcome back, glad you decided to pick up with this story again. Yup, life isn’t always happiness and good times. We have to struggle thru drama to be able to appreciate those happier moments. Can’t wait to see how our young ladies work their way through this all.

    11. MTS…your writing has taken on a new dimension too. Congrats on your novel and thank you for continuing this story. Its difficult to fathom that Melvin would be so against Bette this way because of the way I interpreted his character on the show. It is a wonderfully written, heartwrenching chapter.

    12. well well if it isnt my friend fergz. sns, excellent. you forgot one. he who is with sin, yada yada yada. funny how people use scripture to only make themselves feel justified. thanks for the update.

    13. MTS….Your’e the best.I’ve said that to a lot of authors on this site but I’ve never really meant it until now. : ) If Melivin doesn’t pay for the rest of Bette’s schooling…I think Bette should sell the Beamer. The money she’d get would last her up until her senior year at UCLA…that’s of course if she finds a small apartment and split the rent with Tina. It’s only 6K for califronia residents a year..w/o room and board. I should of applied there but I didn’t. **Sigh** Now my tuition is around 40K a year. Keep posting regularly..if you get the time. Toodles.

    14. I am so glad you are back. Don’t leave us again, k? Roommates was one of the stories that got me hooked on this site. Wonderful chapter. I’m scared for Bette, but with help from Kit, Tina, and her aunt she should be okay. PS How’s the novel going? Whats it going to be about?
