Is it Finally The End of The Road – Follow up Chapter 4

    Con’t…

The elevator suddenly jerked, causing the women to grab for the walls of the compartment, and at the same time knocking the two bottles of water over. “Shit!” Bette watched as they started to roll away, and then without thinking she leaned to the side stretching her arm out to grab them, the movement causing her shirt to stretch across her stomach.

Tina’s eyes went wide as she took in the scene before her…all the snacks which had never before been a part of Bette’s diet…the box of ginger candy…and Bette stretching to grab the bottles.

“Oh my God,” Tina gasped, covering her mouth with her hand. “You’re pregnant!”

    Chapter 4

Bette froze, her outstretched arm just an inch short of the bottle she had been trying to save. Afraid to look at Tina she slowly moved back to her original position, keeping her eyes down and protectively spreading her hands over her stomach.

For a moment neither woman spoke, then finally when the silence had reached a point of being deafening, Bette lifted her head. She stared into Tina’s eyes as her own filled with tears, and a smile that started out tentative in a flash burst forth with such pride and joy it was heartbreaking in the best of all possible ways.

    “Yes,” she whispered.

As Tina watched Bette’s heart visibly expand with her announcement, she was unable to keep her own from breaking into shards. She stifled a sob that threatened to escape, not wanting to take away an ounce of Bette’s happiness.

Bette watched the myriad of emotions cross Tina’s face, confused by the deep pain that was there for a second, and then quickly replaced with a smile.

    “Wow,” Tina finally choked out.

“Yes,” Bette repeated, almost as if she herself couldn’t believe it.

Tina lowered her head, her fingers fiddling with each other. “I’m happy for you Bette,” she managed to get out before clapping her mouth shut, afraid of the bile that was threatening.

“Thank you,” Bette responded sincerely. “I was incredibly lucky and got pregnant after only three months.” Bette studied Tina while neither of them spoke. She realized that Tina was not only feeling some kind of emotional pain over her news, but was truly shocked as well. “I guess I thought that Alice might have said something to you by now.”

    1. Oh god, Seahurst, I blame you for getting me shushed and evil-stared at in the library. School library to be exact. The last line just made me burst out laughing, that was amazing comedic relief. =D I was breathing a sigh of relief when I read that Jodie wasn’t a part of the process, totally phew. hahaha, thanks so much for this, and don’t leave us hanging again please!! =))

    2. Hey Seahurst, That is still much emotional pull between Bette an Tina so they have to work at it and seee where it takes them. They belong together and need to have a little faith in each other to deal with the past and work on a future together.I hope that these green shoots get a change to grow into a full blossoming partnership. You have create a beautiful and twisted tale which I love. More please as I need my fix.Just utterly magical. Many thakns from Your Loyal Fan.

    3. I GOT A SHOUT-OUT, I GOT A SHOUT-OUT!!! Yeah for me! OK, now that I’m done with that, I have one thing to say before I write my comment. Jaded–what if we begged you to kill someone off if you returned to writing? Would that help?! LOL! I know that you said this chapter was short, and it was because I’m really into this story, but it was well worth it and I’m happy to have gotten it! Great writing, I can see that things are looking up for them. Even if they remained friends, which I beg for you NOT to let that happen, at least they have some relationship. Please post soon!

    4. Thanks for the update. I give Tina a lot of credit for being able to swallow the pain she was feeling and just show Bette that she truly is happy for her. Now, if we can only keep them trapped on that elevator long enough for them to both realize they’re still right for each other….

    5. Seatails… i just LOVE your writing. i finished this and immediately checked to see when you posted it so i’d have some idea of when i could begin to whine:’pleeeeeze post sooooon…’ I know you initially thought this would be a shorter story- but I hope you are rethinking that. Sincerely, Your toe tapping (hypocrite) fan.
