    The Set Up (12)

Tina phoned her sister Victoria, and explained the mistake she felt she’d made with Bette. Surprisingly, as she was asking for some time alone to talk with Bette, Victoria reminded her sister of plans she’d already made with Angelica a while back – to see a movie. She assured Tina it would make more sense for her to keep Angelica for the night, asking to make sure that Tina was alright before leaving for work.

After hanging up the phone, Angelica brought her backpack out into the living room to grab her breakfast. “Mom! You didn’t make anything yet?”

Tina turned to the expectant child, shaking her head. Trying not to smile at the attitude, lest Angelica think it was encouragement. “How often do I tell you to stop assuming, Angie? Go check the fridge,” she instructed, biting the pen cap off so she could mark her calendar. “Huhy?”

“Mom, I can’t hear you. You have a pen in your mouth.”

Tina quickly placed the cap back on the pen and left it on the counter, running down the hall to her room. “Hunny, I forgot about your movie with Vicky! It’s tonight – is that still okay?” When she’s come back to the kitchen with another loaded back of documents, she snatched one of the waffles from the tray. “Are you sure you’re feeling up to it?” And at last, she sat down with her daughter at the table. “I’ve been meaning to check in with you lately, sweetie. You’re worrying me.”

“Then just don’t think about me …”

“Hunny!” Tina breathed, putting down the food in her hand to look across the table. Ignoring the newspaper that laid on the table, waiting for her. “You know I think about you all the time. Every day. Every minute, too.” She smiled when Angelica did, standing to move her hand over the girl’s back. “Every second.”

“Okay, enough,” Angelica chuckled, rolling her eyes to make her point. “I’m not a baby, Mom. I can take care of myself.”

“You’re my baby,” Tina insisted, holding Angelica to her hip and then letting her go to trace press down her daughter’s natural, curly hair. “We should trim it again, hey?”

“Mooom,” Angelica groaned, “I want it long for when I relax it.” She’d wanted her hair straight for quite a while.

    2. Thanks GR for another amazing update! Been waiting for this update and now pining for the next one :-) so its true that Angelica’s father is a player! Such an irresponsible guy somemore!! Huh!:-( But in the other hand, what Tina said also made sense that somehow its a good thing as she has Angelica and free to love Bette :-) I love the development curve of them GR! Tentative steps as both are not in their comfort zones but eager to try for a better stage in life. PPVS … Thanks again!! :-)
