Bette was picking Angelica up at school again, which had become customary when Tina worked late. A year and a half had passed since Bette’s birthday, but her mind was still brought back to her last birthday when Angelica mentioned a math game with a whole bunch of cakes that fit together. Bette listened all the way to the house, letting them both inside to make dinner. Tina would be home soon – what felt like home to them all. Bette was spending less and less time at her house, but she made a point of going back to be clear that she hadn’t moved in. She even refused to use the drawer Tina had offered to her, but she did have her own toothbrush she hid from sight so Angelica wouldn’t know.
And being nine then, Angelica could surprise everyone with her intelligence. Bette was very proud of her – often helping her with homework or swapping novel titles with the girl. They were both interested in mystery books, although Angelica liked the suspense more than Bette. They both liked many of the same authors – Tina enjoying more cheerful tales, or science fiction at times.
Dinner was always best-served just as Tina came in the door, giving Bette a quick peck as she set down her things and rushed over to the table, asking everyone about their day. And Bette asked Tina about hers, smiling.
They had more time alone as Angelica found better friends aside from Jessica, either spending the night, or staying for dinner. And this was one of those nights. Bette smirked as she lifted another fork of spaghetti to her mouth, trying to distract herself until they dropped Angelica off, because a car ride earlier that day had fully caught her attention – when Tina had admitted something of great interest.
Tina shifted in the passenger seat as Bette was dropping her off at school after a nice lunch out together. She tried not to smile or give anything away.
Bette was speaking about a party she’d been to. “I just didn’t really … I don’t know. I never really had a rhythm. I feel like a buffoon dancing around.”
Tina smiled. “Yeah, I felt that way too until I …” Then she hesitated. “Took a class.”

I must say I’m intrigued now!! Would love to read about the Peabody-Porter encounter. Both egos are quite very alike. Shame it’s coming to the end but I’m sure you have more stories about our favorite couple. Awesome job!!!
