DCL 3 – Supper And Memories In Smallville

Clara and Lana walk together outside.  Ma has consoled herself with hymns and talks with other relatives elsewhere while Linda and Karen console each other.  For them and Clara, this is their first true feeling of loss since learning the truth about who they really are as children.  Outside, Clara walks with Lana toward the barn.

Lana “You know your pa’s proud of you, right?  He was able to see you graduate and now you’re on your way to one of the big cities.”

    Clara is silent.

Lana “Clara…I know this feels bad right now.  And we’re all gonna miss him.  But you know you can talk to me.”

Clara “Lana…there’s…something I need to show you.”

Lana “Missus Kent said you had something on your mind…and that it was okay.”

    Clara “Yep…”

    Lana “And a secret?”

    Clara nods.

    Lana “What is it, Clara?”

    Clara “It’s…here in the barn.”

Clara makes her way to the tractor and looks at Lana.

Clara “Promise me this stays between us.  Please?”

Lana “I’ve already promised your ma.  She said it was okay…whatever it is.”

    Clara “Lana…”

Clara places her hands on Pa’s tractor.

Clara “…There’s a reason why me and my sisters keep to ourselves.  We’re a little different from the other kids.”

    Lana smiles.

    Lana “I’ve always known that.”

Clara “No.  This is different.  You’ve been with me…and this family for as long as I can remember.”

Lana “Yep…I can still remember you picking me up and running around with me…”

    Lana laughs.

Lana “You were such a strong girl.  Your parents would tell ya, ‘Put her down!  Gently!’”

Clara “…That’s only part of it.”

Clara clutches the tractor and without any effort to be detected, pulls it out of the barn.  Lana gasps at the feat of unnatural strength.

Lana “H-…How did you do that???”

Clara “I told you.  We’re not like the other kids.  You’ve always wondered why my skin and hair felt so tough.”

    Lana “…Yeah.  Like steel.”

Lana is still getting over the image of what she has seen.

Clara brushes off some dirt with her feet until what appear to be flat door handles emerge.  Clara looks at Lana, who now appears confused and pulls open the doors.  On the door to the right is a switch with a wire leading down to whatever is underground.  Clara flips the switch and Lana notices lights now on underneath.
