Lana “Hi, Missus Kent.”
Mrs. Kent has always loved Lana’s smile since she were a child. They greet each other with a hug.
Ma “Come on in, hon. Clara’s gonna be so excited to see you.”
Lana “Where are the girls?”
Ma “They’re-”
Linda and Karen arrive in the kitchen, fully changed. The super-speed they possess makes changing from one clothing to another easier when expecting guests.
Karen “Hey, Lana.”
Linda “Hi!”
Lana “Hey girls. You two behaving?”
Martha “I’m so proud of them. They’re growing up and soon they’ll be out to Metropolis.”
Lana “Wow, both of you? With Clara?”
Linda “We were both accepted to Metropolis U. Pretty excited for college.”
Lana “Congratulations!”
Ma “They’ve also chosen outfits.”
Lana “Oh you mean…?”
Ma nods her head.
Ma “Mm hm.”
Lana “I’ve been watching the news. That’s Clara ain’t it?”
Ma “Yep.”
Lana “Does anybody else know it’s her?”
Ma “I don’t know, but I plan on finding out when she gets here.”
Karen “I don’t think Pa would like it too much if Clara told everybody it was her.”
Linda “Nope. He always wanted us to keep that secret. You’re like…the only one who really knows.”
Karen “Unless you’ve been telling others.”
Lana “No, I made that promise a long time ago. I see yall as part of my family.”
Lana turns her attention to the stove which has food cooking.
Lana “Mmm, smells nice.”
Ma “Yep, supper should be ready soon.”
As the ladies help Mrs. Kent with the food, including placing it on the table, Lana thinks back to a moment in time that she plans to carry with her to her grave.
It is no longer the present, but years earlier. Clara has graduated from Smallville High School and has been accepted into Metropolis University. Before leaving however, it was a time for grieving with the death of Jonathan Kent, also known as Pa Kent. He had been a father figure for Clara, Linda, and Karen. To the citizens of Smallville, they were simply miracle daughters Ma Kent had given birth to at home. They received legitimate birth certificates from a state that was none the wiser.
Through Ma and Pa, Clara, then Linda and Karen were raised to deal with the unusual nature of their respective beings. Through it all, Clara had gained a best friend from childhood named Lana Lang. In the present, Lana is catching up with the Kent family. On this day in the past, they are all mourning the loss of their patriarch. Earlier that day was the funeral.
