DCL 3 – Supper And Memories In Smallville

Clara “We’re aliens.  And…I don’t know what happened between Krypton and here, but…it led to us having these…abilities.”

Lana “Like…being able to pull heavy tractors and…carrying your best friends around like they’re feathers?”

Clara “That’s just part of it.”

    Lana “What else is there?”

    Clara closes her eyes.

    Clara “You promised?”

Lana “Yes.  My word to you and Jesus.”

Clara turns away from Lana and looks at the ground beneath them while removing her glasses.  Suddenly, red beams of light shoot out from Clara’s eyes, burning the ground.  Lana jumps back, away from the sudden fire which Clara suddenly puts out with her breath, blowing it out as if it were fire from a lit candle.  Lana can only look on with her mouth open, astounded.  Clara then places her glasses back on.

Clara “I can fly, too.  There’s…this message that was left for me in this small vessel that brought me here.  When I was a child, it didn’t make any sense.  Then a few years ago, I came down here and discovered a translator for it.  Clara Kent is the name the world knows me as.  My birth name from Krypton is Kala-El.  My sisters, Linda and Karen are actually my cousins, Kara Zor-El and Kara Jor-El.  Ma and Pa raised us as their children.  They were never proud of lying, but they did it to protect us.  They didn’t want the government turning us into research.  They wanted us to have a childhood.  They saved our lives.”

    Lana “Whuh…wow.”

Clara “Lana, I don’t mean to scare you.  I hope this doesn’t change anything.”

Lana “Did…anybody else ever make it?”

Clara “I don’t know.  I’ve always thought that somewhere out there, we have other Kryptonians that survived.  I don’t know if they wound up here on Earth or elsewhere.  But according to the message in the vessel, it was on the verge of destruction.  Our planet was in the midst of a war with itself.  One day I hope to reach them…to let them know that we’re here.  And we’re okay.  We’re on Earth.  My birth parents saw Earth as a symbol of hope, just like the symbol you see as the weird ‘S.’  I can’t look until I know it’s time.  When that time is right, Pa said I’ll know.  But until then…I have to keep this to myself.  Linda and Karen have to keep this to themselves.  I know I can trust you.  I just pray…that…”

Lana sees enough in Clara to know that whatever she is, she can still cry.

Clara “…That we’re not alone.  That others were able to survive.”

    Lana “Clara…”

Lana looks up at her friend, reaching up and wiping the tears from Clara’s face.

Lana “I wish there was something I could tell you.  All I know…is that…whatever brought you here…I’m glad it did.  Because you mean that much to me.  And it would…really be horrible having my life without you in it.  And you never…ever…have to worry about trusting me.  I’m always here.”

    Clara “…I love you, Lana.”

Lana wraps her arms around Clara’s waist, kissing her on the right cheek.

    Lana “I love you, too.”

The two hold one another and despite the steel feeling of Clara’s flesh, can still feel her emotionally shaking.

Clara “I have to be careful…containing all of this power.  I have to be delicate.”

Lana “Hey.  You’re doing fine.  I still feel safe with you.”

Back in the present, Lana thinks about that day, only to have it interrupted by another knock on the kitchen door.  The door opens and there is Clara, having just arrived from Metropolis.  The first hug always goes to Ma, then to Lana, with Linda and Karen greeting her next.  It is suppertime in the Kent household.  It is a time of family, of which Lana has become just as much a part of in her own way.
