Moonlit, Episode 2: Daylight

”Well, she is. A lot like me. In some ways.” Elisa qualified.
”Does she have a girlfriend? Or, a boyfriend?” Dominique asked curiously.
”Boyfriend. Now. She’s had both. She’s bisexual, like you I guess.” Elisa qualified.
”Mm. I’m not sure that’s what I am, actually.” Dominique admitted.
”No?” Elisa asked. ”I thought, with what you’d said before, and Goliath…”
”…He… was the only male. And, as I’ve said, it’s been a thousand years. I don’t want another male as a mate.” She told her honestly.
”Why not?” Elisa asked curiously.
”I… just don’t.” Dominique replied. The reason was that she didn’t want to risk having another child. So, she supposed maybe she actually still was bisexual, in that she could still be attracted to either gender, but functionally, she had made the choice to only peruse romantic entanglements with other females. She didn’t want to get into that conversation with Elisa now though. It was a beautiful day out, and she felt happy. She didn’t want to… to think about her dead son, or to have Elisa feel… sorry for her.
”Oh. Alright…” Elisa said, sensing there was obviously more to it than that, but respecting her date’s need to keep some things to herself for now.
”What happened when you and your sister got here?” Dominique asked.
”Oh, just normal stuff, mostly. We got some food from the food carts, ran around a lot, played tag for a while. During lunch, there was this crowd of grownups eating and talking and stuff. We went over and ate lunch with them, took turns making up stories about them – Like, this one was an orphan from a far away land who struck it rich in the root beer business and secretly dreamed of owning a rabbit farm
one day, and that one was secretly a spy, except she fell in love and ignored orders to go home when her bosses told her to. After that, there were some other girls there our age playing with frisbees, and we joined in for a while.” Elisa explained. ”And then there was one really exciting thing that happened.” She told her.
”What’s that?” Dominique asked, an engaged smile on her face. Elisa’s voice just seemed to have that effect on her, made her want to smile.
