    Moonlit, Episode 2: Daylight

    Moonlit by Jessica Knight

”And… is that a disappointment to you?” Dominique questioned, sensing something more to it beneath what Elisa had said.

”Huh? Oh, no. I mean, of course not. It’s his life and everything, I can’t live it for him. I just wish he’d talk to me about it, you know?” She confessed. ”He still won’t even tell me why he did it. Why he quit. Won’t tell dad or Beth either as far as I can tell. I think he might have said something to mom, but if he did, mom’s keeping tight-lipped about it too… I think, I mean, it’s got to have been something bad though, right?”

”You can’t… ask his superior officer, look for a report, something like that?” Dominique asked.

”I thought of that. But… well, there’s a lot of history there with him and me – He probably already thinks I’m trying to run his life. If I went to his old boss like that, tried to go around him, I think he’d really take it personally. He’ll tell me when he’s ready, I guess. I just… have to be patient about it.” She explained.

Dominique smiled. ”And I take it you weren’t always so patient?”

”You could tell that, huh?” Elisa was a little chagrinned. ”Like I said, history. I guess I do have a track record of being a little over protective of him. But it always seemed like he needed it, you know? He always seemed to… I don’t know, make bad choices. Not like Beth.” Since what had happened with Margot though, her perspectives on a lot of things had changed.

”She followed along… like to the park, in your story for instance?” Dominique supposed, thinking she and Elisa might have something in common in this area.

”Huh? No, of… um, so, okay, maybe there might be some truth to that, I suppose.” She admitted, now that she’d had a moment to really consider that. ”She’s always had a good head on her shoulders though, and she never felt shy about telling me when she thought I was wrong. Derrick, well, I guess… he was always kind of naive… But I was telling you a story about when I came here with Beth, wasn’t I?” Elisa asked.
