    Can’t You Hear Me

Thirteenth Doctor “That’s part of the story, but yes.”

First Doctor “Hm. Then perhaps you know something about my companions going missing.”

Second Doctor “That happened to you as well?”

Third Doctor “Yes, my UNIT companions are missing. Are you certain this is Gallifrey? It looks different from what I remember.”

    Fourth Doctor “That’s nothing new.”

The fourth incarnation of the Doctor looks over at the Fifth, holding out a small of candy towards him.

    Fourth Doctor “Jelly Baby?”

Fifth Doctor “I’m afraid I don’t have much of an appetite at the moment.”

Sixth Doctor “Same here. So many of us in one setting and apparently I’m not the only one with missing companions.”

Seventh Doctor “You’re not. Mine have also gone missing.”

Ninth Doctor “Well, it’s not quite as much fun with Rose around!”

    Tenth Doctor “I agree.”

Eighth Doctor “So I wind up with a Rose, do I?”

Eleventh Doctor “I’ve had… pardon me, we’ve all had so many companions it would be a daunting task to make them all disappear.”

Thirteenth Doctor “Yet that’s precisely what has happened, isn’t it? I have a new temporary companion with me inside my TARDIS, but she’s not of this universe.”

The First Doctor notices the one future form of his who is silent. He has a beard and a gruff expression.

First Doctor “You there! Whichever number incarnation you are!”

He looks at his original incarnation knowing that this was a conversation he never wanted to have.

War Doctor “I don’t have a number. I’m the one fighting the war.”

First Doctor “Fighting you say? I don’t understand.”

Thirteenth Doctor “It’s a really long story.”

First Doctor “It appears so, hm.”

Thirteenth Doctor “Also… I’m not a child. I’m the Doctor.”

He does not doubt her sincerity.

First Doctor “Then, Doctor what are we going to do about our little problem, hm?”

Before she, or any of the other Doctors can answer, a familiar noise is heard. It materializes in the middle of their circle. It is another TARDIS, identical to the original. The other Doctors huddle around to get a closer look at who emerges from the opening of its door, all of them soon facing it. When the door opens, they all know who it is, especially the original Doctor himself.

    First Doctor “Susan!”

Most of the Doctors there remember the note left aboard their own ship by Susan and now she is here and holding something similar to what has become known to various incarnations of the Doctor as a sonic screwdriver.

Susan “Oh, Grandfather please stand back.”

As she talks, she begins to hold the device high over her head with her right hand.

Susan “You said one day that you would return. I waited. I tried to live this life of a normal woman. But I’m not normal, Grandfather. I never will be. I developed the courage to move on. No regrets. No tears. No anxieties. I did go forward in all my beliefs. My belief is that we deserve better than this. And we’re going to change it.”

First Doctor “Susan, child what are you doing?”

Thirteenth Doctor “I don’t know what you’re up to, but I’d really like to have my companions back and so would the others.”

Susan smiles at her grandfather’s latest form.

Susan “It’s so nice to meet you. I wish you would have come along sooner.”

Susan closes her eyes as a bright light emerges from her device, blinding everyone momentarily. When everyone is able to open their eyes again, they see that all of the TARDISes are gone, save one. The Doctors remain with only one TARDIS between them as Susan disappears.

“…It used to be so good.”
